I had the same problem in my Caprice... it was a loose wire to the speed sensor. I just hope it's not a broken tooth on the sensor gear, some of them are plastic.

It only throws a code once in a while(light)... shut the car off start it back up, goes away, reset the codes, a month later does it again. Sound familiar?

Is your speedo cable run or electronic wire harness? and if Cable did you check to see if the end is wound and ifs it electrical did you check fuse panel as well as use a voltmeter to check the signal to the speedo

I had this problem on my 79 ta, but the source was that the line from trany was lying on the exaust pipe and got burned.
I am not sure if this is a problem on your bird, but its worth checking.

Either A Bad Connection Or Your Gear In The Tranny Has Either Popped And Slid Back On The Shaft Or Is Stripped, Takes 10 Minutes To Pull The Vss To Check The Gears.

Yeah...
Change the O-ring when you check it, or it'll leak after you put it back in.
