This is probably a question more for an insurance agency, but here goes. Basically, I was gettin sleepy on a long road trip and I let my friend drive for a while...to make a long story short, he totalled my 240sx..altho it's still drivable, just with a lotta body damage but no frame damage. The insurance agency is payin me for the vehicle and I'm wonderin whether you guys would opt to keep the vehicle and sell it or just give it to the insurance agency. I might just keep the vehicle for parts in case I get another 240sx. Finally, since the accident was entirely his fault, what should be my friend's part in this whole thing?

Evaluate how much the body reapir is gonna cost ie take it to a body shop for a quote. Then id make the decision from there

Also, concerning your friend, keep in mind that you let him drive.

yea man that sux......but i would do what drftkid said and get an estimate on the body damage first......how much is the insurance company giving u for ur car? i got 2000 and opted to keep the vehicle.....(i had to buy it back for 400).

is it me or does it seem like alot of 240's are being totalled out all the sudden??? thats like the 3rd or 4th post of a wrecked 240.

Mine was hit while it was parked, smashed the fender to bits and the door as well, $2600 repair, good thing I got that idiot's insurance info from some bystanders. I've been fighting the insurance company since november, Their inital offer was to total my car and net me $1200, since then I've fought them all the way up to 2400 net after a total. I did all that just fighting over the stock value. It's my intention to now push the value of the car up further with recepits from all work done to the car in the last year (New trans, clutch, master/slave, wheels, and other odds and ends) If I can use those to push the value from $2900 (their new estimate of the car not factoring in any work done to it.) up to ~$4000, they will pay for the repairs and I get to keep my 240 AND clean title.

Make sure to give them a good fight, you might be able to get closer to recovering your losses.

Thanx for respondin guys. I got the whole thing settled and got enuf money, so I bought another '92 240sx. It ain't perfect, but it's the SE model as opposed to the base model and has 50000 less miles. Still, there are 2 holes all the way thru the body of the trunk caused by rust and water leaks in. So mold and mildew have grown and it stinks. I had to buy a new shift knob too; got a leather nismo shift knob (please don't say that's ricey).

There are alot getting totaled out! Especially with this new drift-craze!About three days ago I ran into the guy I sold my 240sx to and he told me he wiped out trying to drift like a week after he bought it from me! My beautiful 240! I guess he freaked mid-drift and over-corrected himself and hit a parked semi truck, spun out and ended sliding under another semi's trailer which ripped up most off the roof of the car... he is lucky his head didn't go with it! LUCKILY he was not seriously injured and was alive and well to show me pix of his mess... poor 240!
