I've been combing the camaro and firebird forums and see that most 4th gen V8s are getting around 20 mpg. Now, so far the best gas mileage my car has gotten is 14 mpg. I realize that the quick answer is gonna be 'cause you drive hard'...but let me tell you that most of the time I do not.
I just wanna know if anyone else has had this problem and if there is a solution. Premium gas here in Mass. is gettin close to 2 bucks so any help would def. be appreciated. Thanks a lot guys
ps..does it have anything to do with my car being Z/28 SS? (97) does anyone else have a z/28 ss so i can compare?

Hows it run? any pinging or oil burning?
You could try new spark plugs, air filter, and a fuel system cleaner (like gumout)

well it runs very well, aside of the transmission starting to slip, but that hasnt changed the mileage. air filters are new, havent tried fuel cleaner and am getting new platinum spark plugs after trans rebuilt...
could the spark plugs really make a difference?
thanks for your advice

id say its normal. unless your O2 sensor is on the way out. and is throwing off the mix. im assuming you dont have a check engine light on

well i do have this "problem" but its mostely cuz of my mods. i'm basicaly forcin alot of air into my car when i'm moving. (cuztom intake) and i was getting 14.5 mpg. but then i got the hypertech power programer and i got 15.6 now. but i would say, change fuel filter, get fuel injector cleaners, or if it has 100,000 miles change the injectors, new air filter, oil change and new filter, and also a a tune up will always do wonders. what mod's have you done is the main question. but i hope some of this info helps.
oh and just to have some fun...here in so cal gas prices are about 2.55 a gal :D
