Ok ... i found a car that is 9 miles away from my house. 1993 Mitsubishi VR4 - the guy is sellin it for $10,500 or best offer. I would go over my price range for this VR4 because it only has 53K miles ... but wow $10,500 is kind of alotta money for me ... and im thinking maybe it's better spent on a newer vr4 - say 1994 model - A 94+ VR4 for 10k will probably be well above the 100k mileage mark ... lol right now i'm lost, i really have no idea what to do. Options:
1992 VR4 - $4500 - 141k miles:
This car is very far away from me. The seller says it's in good condition (trans, clutch, turbos, engine) - he just needs to sell it. But there's really no way to verify the cars good condition ... well atleast i think there's not.
1993 VR4 - $10,500 or best offer - 53k miles
This car is 9 miles away from my house. It's from the original owner. Clean title, never in accident, *meticulously maintained, chrome rims, pioneer stereo, sub combo (stuff i dont really care about lol i want the car damn it). - He posted pics ... and the car looks *brand new.
Now ... but my price range originally was 7g's ... i would go out of my way for this 53k mileage VR4, and i know it would last me quite a long time. It's practically new ... i mean call me dumb, but :( the thing is - for $10,500 ... i could probably find a 94+ model with high mileage ... basically because the looks of the car really appeal to me MUCH MUCH more - the circle lights, the roundness - lol ... but i guess that's just LUST! I mean ... my mind and wits tell me to go with the 53k mileage one, because it could last me many years, but my eyes tell me to go for the 94+ models ... i think i should follow my mind & wits :) any opinions? TY ALL - you guys/grz have been such a great help, really! :)

I am a huge fan of the 94+ models. I know that the changes under the hood were minor aside from the 5 to 6 speed transmission change, but the body style looks a hundred time better to me.
With that said, 10K isn't out of line for a 93 in PERFECT condition with those miles. I mean perfect - not a blemish, grind, humm, pop or crackle in the car. No wind noise on the seals at a hundred twenty. No fluid leaks of any kind. Immaculate engine bay. You get the idea.
Personally, I'd get a second generation but finding an immaculate version of the VR4 might be worth making a move on if you aren't married to the second gens looks.
Sounds like you're in a good dilema :p

Yeah I'm with Yogs on this one... I love the way the second gens look. More power and good looks, what more could you ask for. 10,500 for me is wayyyyyyyy too much for a first gen. In the end, you gotta think of what car you would be happier with. If you get a first gen, when in fact you really want a second, you'll kick yourself for doing it. I'm lookin for a VR4 too for like a year now, and I've found some, but I really don't wanna settle for something I'm not 100% happy with...

LoL ... a dilema indeed yogs :) sigh lol - hey nes you are totally right ... i really really like the 2nd gen vr4's ... they appeal to me SO much more, the 1st gens appeal to me ... economically that is, and Yes, if i do get a 1st gen ... everytime i'd look at a 2nd gen i'd be like - omg! i SO want that car! lol - i got a craving for VR4's, but it's one that i dont think the 1st gen can supplement! lol ...................... i'm thinking it through .... I need a car mainly for the Summer - the summer isnt here yet. I can do 3 months more of saving, and if i go on a kool aid budget lol i think for the summer i can have a 2nd gen vr4 - hopefully. My only prob. is
-> Arent these cars hard to find? Everytime i search them up only about 4-7 come up :( so when the summer comes - i dont want to be VR4less! That's one of the main reasons why i want one by next month. hehe car hunting sure is fun tho :D i just hope that if i wait ... i'm lucky enough to find one for the summer.
*"the 1st gens appeal to me ... economically that is"* - btw i'm definitely not tryin to bust on the 1st gen VR4 because it looks like a beast!- *The 2nd gens are really sumttin else though ... :)

I waited for two years for my car. No need to rush, there will always be plenty available.

well i started out really in love with the 2nd gen models of the 3000gt, they just seemed a lot better to me overall, the milling on the sides below the doors seemed better and the headlights were beautiful, i thought all of this of course until i found my pearl 93 3000gt.
I know most people favor the newer models as well they should for what comes with them but either one is beautiful to me.
I myself have grown to like the 93 models more but if you can i would definitely get a higher mileage 94-99 model for cheaper than the other vr-4, its all about what suits you. If you find yourself with a lot of cash left over and a first gen model you can buy a front end conversion kit which can round up your car to look like the 94-99 models a little more.
If it were me i would offer this guy with the 92 around 9,000 or 8,500 and see if he bites, you never know, my gt's for sale price was 7,000 and i worked her down to 5,500 and plus the $4,500 gt might not be in great shape and you may have to repair a lot of things on it. For example i test drove a nice black 95 3000gt and on the add it said good condition, well the brakes were shot the suspension had been torn apart, the whole car had a real loose feel like somone had taken it and just beaten the crap out of it. It only had 52,000 miles and was selling for $9,000 BUT it was in such bad condition that it would have been only worth around $4,000. You never really know about these things until you test drive the car itself or have a mechanic look it over.

Yeah... My SL sat idle for 2 years before I could drive it. And I'm STILL looking for a VR4... it's been like a year. Getting something you know you'll love and never regret buying is worth the wait though.

Ok - i've calculated everything - and by the summer i would certainly have enough money to buy a high mileage year 94+ Vr4, but i would have - just enough money - probably about $12k, but the purchase would leave me *so broke. Plus insurance, New Jersey is a very expensive state, auto-insurance-wise, and god forbid the trans or engine should go out. Economically, my best move is to take steps towards the $4.5k 92 Vr4. I'd have so much more money left over to maintain/repair it if anything should go wrong. Sure the 2nd gens look Sooooooooooooooooooooo great :), but hey lol i'm young :D and i like setting goals for myself -> 94+ Vr4 could be my future car :)!, but for now i'm gonna have to go with the 92 i found, and if that doesnt work out i will just wait patiently like most of you say have been doing.
*Question - The seller claims the car is in good condition, but words are words and he could just bs me, what does he care i live 1kmiles away. I wish i could find a good way to verify the car's condition, b/c if that were the case, i'd be buying it by next week or the end of this month. Does anyone know of any ways i can verify the vehicle's condition? I've thought about calling up a mechanic from around the area ... true mechanics lie, but right now that's my best option. Does anyone have a better way? I mean ... a vin # doesnt reveal everything. - All in all i'd like to thank all of you for the help, really, you guys/grlz have been such a great help -> *Go out of your ways just to help others and *i really admire you all for that :)* - Thank You - lol funny how my *Question is a paragraph long huh lol...

and like i said before if your really set on the post 94 body types look into a front end conversion kit found here http://www.3sxperformance.com/body.asp
This kit will turn your 92 look into a more 99 styled look but i think it only applies to the front of the car. Either way any 3000gt is a good choice. (Keep in mind that conversion kit is pretty expensive and should only be looked into if you have enough cash to spare)
Anyway enjoy the 92, i hope you get to test drive it first to make sure theres nothing wrong with it though

2 suggestions come to mind about checking it out.
1) the obvious, carfax
2) go to 3si.org, and check out their forums in the regional section, see if you can locate some of the members near where the car is being sold. Perhaps they could help check it out for you, or at least point you towards a competent mechanic. Good luck.
