shifter problems

i bought a short throw from mazdatrix.com, and it hits the radio consel of my first gen! i thought this place was supposed to be the best! any ways, i put the old one back on, and i lubed it up with tranny fluid. Am i supposed to dump qt.'s in the hole? or just lube up the shifter?
