2001 Passat

My daughter owns a 2001 Passat with 55,000 miles. At around
52,000 m iles, the "OIL PRESSURE.STOP ENGINE" light came on.
After several trips to dealer, and replacement of camshaft belts,
oil pressure sending unit the problem persists. After each of the replacements, the
car appeared normal for as long as two weeks until the same
warning light came on again. One month ago, the dealer dropped
the oil pan looking for sludge and found none. The engine was
oil pressure tested by dealer and found to be normal.
One month after the oil pan inspection, the oil pressure light
is on again. It sometimes comes on at highway speeds and also
in city driving and stays on until ignition is turned off. When
car is restarted it may take several minutes for the warning
light to re-appear. She loves the car, but is frustrated by
the dealer's inbility to correct the problem.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

If it's under warranty, I'd start pushing that they look at the control module assembly in the instrument cluster.

Thanks for the reply. I have been suspecting something like a
computer glitch, or as you say "Control module." She returned
home from a business trip today (light still on) at highway speeds
for 2.5 hours while watching the temperature gage and said
everything was fine with the engine.

What every happend to the Passat?
I am having the same thing with my passat.
They say it's the oil pump. Since I can't prove oil changes the warranty is out the door.
Car has about 51,000 miles.
SUCKS
Engine could be trashed too.

Since I posted my original message, a local mechanic replaced a weak spring in the oil pump and later replaced some sort of shroud around the
pump. My daughter checked with service dept. at
a large city vw dealer who reports they have changed 30 or 40 pumps which corrected the problem. She has been driving the car 2 weeks since work described above and has seen the
light only when the "turbo kicks in". Go figure.
