Talon tsi -vs- Celica gts

I was driving down a 6 lane road by Boeing the other night, doing a few above the speed limit. I look in my rearview mirror and see a car with fog lights weaving through traffic, as it gets closer I see the headlights and know it's a celica. It flies by me and I figure I'd give chase to see what happens. I catch up with him and he decides to turn right, so I throw on the brakes and follow. Of course, the road we turn onto is just a 2 lane road with the double yellow line. At any rate, he drops it to 2nd and takes off. I immediately drop it also and pulled pretty hard and caught up but couldn't pass him because we were on a hill and I couldn't see if anybody was coming the other way. So I follow him a couple more miles. At the next light, I give him the thumbs up and he smiles and respondes with throwing the peace sign at me and we go our seperate ways. Nothing special, just kinda lets me gauge what I can expect from my car.

Well at least you where smart enough to not pass on the hill. From a stop I would think you would beat him. From a roll I think you would also beat him but it would be close.

yea...I pulled pretty hard on him in 2nd gear. I know a guy who has trd gts and it isn't as fast as I thought. He barely beat a gsr by 1 car from a roll. The guy I met on the highway was a bone stock gts, so nothing special on his part.

Good run. Stock for Stock a Celica GT-S shouldn't beat your car, but I doubt he was stock anyways. Engine tuning is essentialy with that car, as alot of tuners have complained about problems with the car above 7000 rpms.

I can pretty much depict that a Talo TSI will win hands down even against a Toyota Celica GT-S TRD (Toyota Race Division). The talon is AWD and with turbos there is no competition. Talon will smoke the celica.

Not all TSi's are awd...
97, do you have the awd or fwd version?

mine is a FWD, so my only problem would be getting traction from the launch. After that, like Nexagen said, I'd mostly likely win, hands down.

i think i know what road you're talking about. that whole area by boeing is the shiat.
why are you guys saying gts TRD? isn't the TRD version just a regular gts with a body kit (pretty sweet lookin one btw)....

I was airport road, by paine field and stuff. And I think the the TRD gts's come with a TRD exhaust and intake, along with the body kit. Not sure though...maybe somebody else can verify that?

the trd gts as you call it comes with stock "extended" exhaust........only thing about that body style is the body kit........
TSi would run my car pretty hard into the ground.....from a roll it may be pretty hard with a good driver, but i think the TSi would definitely pull out ahead......
as far as the gts being sh*t beyond 7K rpms no, between 6200 and 7800 the gts is a mean mofo.....the lift kicks in at that point which is an extra 50 bhp....not alot, but its a good little push........

I thought TRD stood for "Toyota Racing Developement" no?
I had a first gen TSI, they where all AWD and ripped up performance, I deffenetly think you'd beat him!
the fastest celica I've ever seen was a GT with a supercharger and ran low 14s. the dude told me that the GT can be made alot faster then the GT-S.

Anyone know any hp or 1/4 mile stats on the GTS?

I've heard of people pulling 14.8 bone stock, but those people had to have been a damn good drivers. You can expect low to mid 15s in a GT-S.
Stock for stock a GT-S wouldn't stand a change against your car. Nice that he wasn't a prick though. I hardly ever get a thumbs up after a race around here.

i don't see how would the Tsi definitly win if it was stock vs stock. i think it would be a damn good race. since both of them run's high 14's with excellent drivers.
the talon has 220hp but weights 3000 lbs. the GTS makes 180hp but weights 2500 lbs.
the power delivery of the talon doesn't like to be reved past 6K, the power delivery of the GT-S doesn't come to life till after 5.5K hmmm

Nah, the GT-S will run high 14s with a top notch driver while the TSi will run mid to high 14s with a good driver.

Forced induction vs. N/A. the talon reaches the power band alot faster then the GTS. a stock GTS runs 14s stock??? When the heck did this happen? I've always seen them run 15s, .........I guess the key phrase is "good driver" huh?

i wouldnt say a stock gt-s wouldnt stand a chance against his car, if people have gotten them down to 14.8 then it has a good chance. dont tsi run like low 15's high 14's?????? plus he's got the fwd tsi.

one thing that is pretty impressive about the GT-S celicas is that those tiny 1.8L I4 motors make 180 horsepower. 100hp per liter is not bad at all.

There are a lot of engines that make 100 hp per liter...

No, what you heard about is probably people mis-shifting.. which is pretty common with the 6 speeds. The shift gates are very close together making it easy to downshift to the wrong gear if you aren't careful... causes bent valves and all that good stuff :)
I was able to get 14.7 @ 95mph bone stock in my car.. full interior, no spare. That's with 17" wheels and crappy Toyo FZ-4 tires too..
