Audi a4 trans question?

Ok, ive got a 99 a4 1.8t quattro tiptronic. I am really interested in converting it to manual. Ive done a decent amount of research about this. So dont tell me to go to the audiworld forum and search for it cuase i already have. Ok, this is what i have found out so far. The freshly rebuilt manual trans will cost arround 1200. Ive got the clutch, and the flywheel alreay. I was thinking that i could get the clutch pedal aslemby out of a junked a4, along with the shifter asembly. My question (to anyone one out there that has knowledge about audi's) is what else would i need to purchase. I know there is some wireing issues. Will i need a new ecu. If anyone has done this before or know anything about this topic, i would highly apreciate your input.

It would be cheaper\less headaches to buy a new car. You obviously have no idea what you're getting yourself into.

I'm with audiboost, I have been curious about this for quite a long time too. I don't think I've researched it quite as much as audiboost, but it has been in the back of my mind forever. I am mechanical, and it doesn't SEEM to be that complicated, but there must be some kind of glitch...but then again maybe not. I would appreciate any info too!!

First of all I WOULD know. I have researched it. Looks like you did some research on the parts but have no clue electrically. For starters do you know if your flywheel will bolt up to your crank. I bet it won't. If you don't even know the wiring issues involved then I think it's beyond your capabilities.

How would you even know what my capabilities are. You have no idea man what kind of experience ive had. So you shouldnt just make the assumption. Yes my flywheel will bolt up to the crank. The crank is the same on auto and on manual.

If you had experience you'd already know where to look for the info you need.

Now we don't need to argue on line. I'm pretty sure that a 1.8 auto and 1.8 manual have different wiring harnesses, the ecu is probably different also. coming from a guy who has been working on cars professionally for 18 years, I wouldn't want to do that job. Not only is it going to be very costly, ya never know what kind of problem you may have after you're done. You may open a can of worms you don't want to. Just my opion! If you must GOOD LUCK!

I too have been working professionally on cars for 15 years. I have researched this for someone already and there's a lot more than just something as simple as the wiring harness and ecu. I call it simple because some of the other modifications are even more involved.
BTW someone experienced looking to seriously do this mod would look into every aspect of it before buying parts.

All I know is that Audi spends most of their time engineering on the transmission, that is what makes them Audi. Putting a new tranny in there might not be as good of an idea as it may seem.
