With Stars in My Eyes

Can someone explain to me how the stars under our names work? As far as I can tell, every star equals 100 posts, yet some have only five stars lit up, but have 900 posts, others 700 posts, et cetera. Anyone care to clairfy?

He was part of the merger with purehonda (or the other one) so those folks came over with a lot of posts, so the averages look scewed since it shows a total post count but averaged agains the total time as an AF member.
