isc problems

i have a 92 talon n/t and comparing problems with some of the other threads i think my problem is my isc, unfortunately my chiltons shop manual doesnt have a listing for it. correct me if im wrong but the isc is the motor under the air hose on the throttle body and it has a 6 prong plug.

i took it out and the rod that comes out of it into the engine doesn't spin it only moves about a 16th of an inch, is that my problem? a link i read said to test the resistance of the 4 coils which prongs do i connect to to test that?

i also took it apart to make sure there wasnt something caught in it and its clear and the rod doesnt spin even without the magnet structure around it

d'oh i figure out y it doesnt spin i was turning the wrong spot so now it goes in and out like its supposed to if i turn it but when i hook it up in the car and turn off and on the ignition like terrys talon website said to it just twitches and doesnt move in or out

so how do i test the coils? i need to know so that i can make sure to get a working one when i go to the junkyard

You check resistance between terminals 1 and 2, and between terminals 4 and 5 of the ICS 6 terminal plug. It should be between 28 to 33 ohms. For reference, when looking at the plug terminal 1 is in the upper left hand corner, terminal 6 is in the lower right hand corner. The terminals run 1 through 3 left to right on the top, 4 to 6 from left to right on the bottom.

ICS failure is common on 91 through 94 Talons, I'm not sure about later years.

I just got a Hanes manual at Advance Auto Parts and it is has all the methods for testing the IAC motor and circuit. Also here is something I haven't tried yet but it sounds like it should work. Take the coils out of the IAC motor and put the unit back in the car and start it up, then manually turn the rod until the idle is where you want it and leave it there. A guy told me he did this with his Dodge stealth several years ago and it has been fine ever since.

I took apart my IAC motor and reinstalled it without the coils then started the car and turned the rod manually until the idle was where I wanted it. It does drop slightly when I turn the AC on but if you set the idle around 1000 rpm it should work fine.

hey! I have this problem as well, is it proven that taking out the 4 coils will stop the surging idle? will it damage anything? thanks!!

as well, is the IAC motor the same as the ICSM in this talons? so, when i say taking out the coils i am talking about that in the talon
