No matter what engine, A Ford Truck will get 11-14 MPG

Tom,

That's just not right and you should know it.

Actual MPG is very dependant of gearing, tires, and driver's style. Here are some examples:

1) '88 F250 4x4, 300-6 M/T stock truck, 3.55 gears. MPG: 14-16
2) '94 F250 4x4, 5.8L A/T stock truck w/3.73 gears. MPG: TOWING 8000# 14.5.
3) '99 F150 SC 4x2 4.6L A/T stock truck w.3/55 gears. Averaged 16.5 MPG, when towing 8000# 14.8 MPG. Never under 15 MPG empty, or over 17.5 MPG.
4) '01 F350 QC 4x4 PSD A/T stock truck, 4.10 gears 18.5 MPG MT, 16 towing.
5) '99 Expy 4x2 4.6L A/T, 3.55 gears stock truck. Averages 18.5 MPG for the year.

I had a 87 F-150 with a EFI 300 inline six (4.9L). It was a 2WD with a four speed and 4.10 gears. I got 12mpg city and 15mpg highway, I usualy never drove over 65mph due to the gearing. Your mileage will also depend on weather your truck is a 2WD or 4WD, you'll pay a small to moderate mileage penalty for carring the extra weight and turning the extra drivetrain hardware on a 4WD.

The above poster is correct not all ford trucks get the same mileage, my current truck, 85 F250HD 4WD with a carbeurated 460, 4-speed, and 4.10 gears gets 7.5 mpg city and 10 mpg highway. With current gas prices I almost wish I had a 300 six.

I would have to agree with ya kharrell, with the current gas prices my 2WD 92 F350 A/T with 4:10's and EFI 460 gets about 7-8mpg pulling 6000lbs, and about 9mpg empty sure eats a hole in your wallet in a hurry. But I must say it pulls that 6000lbs around like it wasn't even there.

Guess ya gotta give a little to get something in return.
