I did this with them still on the car just got cordless makita with an abrasive wire brush on it and got ride of the the black and brown then got some 150 grit sand paper and smoothed it out...now it looks like brushed aluminum....dont go crazy with the wire brush on the drill though you could do damage if you go too deep. I'll take them off this spring to do it right but im overall pleased with the new look it transformed the rear of the car.

I did the same thing that you did also... but wait 3000 to 6000 miles they will be right back to how they where! about every oil change i had to clean them I got tired of messing with them cleaning them so i just went out and got these tips. Stainless steel 3". they have a slight curve to make them look good... not like those cheap ones that you see on a camaro or something. But hey man dont get me wrong they look good polished like your talking about.

60 dollars got them for half off.... told them id be back in a couple of months to get a exhaust... so they cut me a deal (muffler man) I seriously have not seen a car like mine with those tips... I always see oval or the twin tip... its different and i like it

Did you have to use the wire brush or would just the heavy sandpaper work well? I'm not too handy with a wireless drill brush and wouldn't want to do any unnecessary harm. And it might be a stupid question but I couldn't really tell from the photo, did you do the outside of the tip as well or just go inside as far as you could. I'm impressed with the difference and would like so see how it's look on my 98, even if it only lasts for a little while. It looks really good.

sand paper would have probably worked im just not the patient kind of guy...i went ahead and went way into the pipes because they looked terrible. If i just take a paper towel and wipe them out everytime i wash the car they keep really clean on the outside.
