Electrical work?

Ok, i have an '87 Iroc(350 TPI) and the wiring is very bad. And i want to fix it very very bad because i obviously want to drive it and not worry about it f&*#'n up on me. My first question is, does anyone know where i would get a wiring harness for it and how hard it would be to replace? And also would anyone know how much it would cost to have it done by a shop? I would guess a lot because it would probably take a hell of a long time. And with todays labor rates we're probably lookin at a pretty hefty bill :banghead: . Any input is appreciated.

you could see about a junkyard, or a GM parts department, they may not stock a harness that old, but cuold probly find it. or you could contact painless wiring, and they can make one for you. those would be my best bets. as far as having a shop do it for you, do you mind taking out a second morgage on your house???? ;)

If your talking about the engine harness than i would recommend the junk yard idea. I had to buy one for my 82 Z28 Crossfire cause the guy I bought it from was keeping the motor and when he removed it he just cut the wires off at the harness. I guess for easy engine removal. But any way I picked one up at a junk yard for $35. Now if you want easy but expensive the painless wiring that 89iroc&rs mentioned is the way to go cause every wire is labaled so there is no guess work.

just one more thing. The wiring harness just plugs into the firewall. Just unscrew the screw in the center and unplug it. Also it would be a good idea to take your harness to the junk yard just to make sure the other one has all the same wires and connectors in the plug.

Thanks guys, another question. How safe/unsafe is it? Every wire is cut and put back together in the engine compartment and under the dash. The engine was obviously swapped. And also, how much we talkin the painless harnesses are. I have seen them in my magazines before, but never seen what i need.

what about the safeness issue?

Well as for as the safeness goes as long as the wires are put back together properly there should not be a problem. What I'm trying to say is if they used wire connectors or soldered them back together and covered up any exposed wires that produce a power current then there should be no prob. Now if the wires are just twisted together and laying everywhere than I would recommend redoing them the proper way. Maybe time consumming but better in the long run cause they might not make good contact with one another and some point in time and leave you stranded on the side of the road somewhere.

Can someone tell me how i can get a picture in a post? 89IROC???? I want to show a picture of the crappy electrical work.

take a digital pic, or scan a real one. save it as a file you keep on your computer. go to the galleries section of AF, and go to UPLOAD in the upper right hand corner. then upload the picture. go to the section on My Pictures, and click on the picture you want in your sig. copy the image address, then go to your User Control panel, and go to the sig section. where the grey box is to input text, then paste the image address into the box, and save sig. there ya go, pic is in your sig.

OR if you just want to put the pic up in a post, then do all the same stuff up to copying the address, then just input a post, and paste the address under your post, and the pic will be there when you post it.

if you put it in your sig, it will be there every time.
