Hey everyone, i bought the fiero and i was just wondering a couple of things. Fiero's don't have power steering do they? And if not could you put it on? And also, is the rough ride a result of the no PS or just suspension problems?

Correct, they do NOT have power steering. I do not know if you can put it on. If by rough ride, you mean very bumpy ride or loose cornering than ya, it has to do with your suspension.

Fieros have very stiff suspension (in my opinion) compared to a lot of other cars so any pot hole or any kind of bump yougo over you are probably gonna feel it, this is how it handles so well in corners/turning

I don't believe it. Pontiac expirimented with electric power steering in a 1988 fiero. That would be the only car to have P/S. If you don't believe me look for the pump, and the lines. Bottom line is you don't even need P/S in a fiero, even at a dead stop the steering is easy enough.

The Mid 80's Fiero's don't have P/S, but I wouldn't put it on. If you drive without it for a bit, I think you'll like it.

Your bumpy ride maybe due to a semi worn out suspensions, or possibly your struts are bad, etc. Springs, struts, engine mounts and other parts will wear out over time and sometimes require replacing depending on the wear and tear on any given model and how it was taken care of.

As for power steering, sorry but NO Fiero off the production line ever came with power steering. It was designed to be driven without one, so in a way it would be overkill if added and might even change the actual driving characteristic of the Fieros award winning design.
Their was an aftermarket power steering kit offered for a short time and only a few people ever spent the big bucks to get it during the short time it was available back in the mid to late 80's. A few ingenius people in the years since have modified other power steering racks to work in the Fiero, but even that is a very small few and thats it.
Sorry, but if your friend has power steering which I would be very surprised if they do, it was done as an aftermarket add on after the fact. It is slightly possible "maybe", though an extreme long shot at best I grant you, that maybe a local dealer somehwere offered it as an in house add on option for a short time. I have never heard of this ever, but I am just trying to be positive on the possibility ;)
Maybe similar to the C&C T-Top option that was actually offered at the dealer in 87-88, though the T-Top option is a real recognized option authorized at the time by Pontiac and is even listed as one of the option codes under the front hood.

Hope that helps

Steve
