2004 comp g "resonator removed"

I just want to let you all know that before i came to this forum i was very ignorant on vehicles that were younger than me(im 29). i learned alot about the "U BEND" on 97-03s and learned my 04 didnt have that but was told by among you all and other people that i still may want to remove the "resonator". I went to the local muffler shop today and they raised my car on the hoist and let me in the shop to see what i was dealing with on the exaust. I must say that the exaust on my comp g is alot less restrictive looking then the 97-03 models, however the resonator was rediculous looking and had to go. I had the 2 foot long monster removed and had it replace with a straight 2 1/4 inch pipe. I thought the wife would kill me for the new sound but even she likes the sound and i could actually tell a difference in say, the 0-60 range and the car now pulls through second gear. It cost $28 and was well worth it and i recomend it to any 04 gtp owners. Thanks guys.

nice....what kind of sound change happened like tone wise?
I was wondering how my 97 would sound with stock mufflers and the resonator and u bend gone? anybody ever try this?

Honestly the sound was not a dramatic change but when u mash it or go down a hill in first gear at 5000 rpm's you can tell. but different sound or not i highly recomend it and basically makes your exaust "free flowing". Im not sure dyno #s would be huge but beleive me when i tell you i noticed a difference when i pulled out of the parking lot and unless you plan on doing major internal engine work(rocker arms and or a cam, or head work) I would stay away from an expensive "catback system" and spend your money elsewhere. like i said today it cost me $28 and 15 minutes. 1 reminder, mine is an 04 with the o2 sensor before the resonator make sure yours is also or you may throw an engine code(check engine light).

alright i think ill go get that done by the end of this week but it will run me a little more because of the o2 sensor...still cant beat it though! thanks for the feedback

Yeah that thing was huge. You probably gain 2hp just from the weight reduction :lol2:

The only drawback is that extra raspiness in the high rpms. I am looking into putting a less restrictive and lighter resonator back on to remove the rasp.
