2000 Camaro vs. 1990-1996 300ZX

I found a 2000 Camaro for sale near me with 86,000 miles on it and was tempted to buy it, but then a friend reccomended that for my style and for good performance i should check out some 300ZXs, since then I've found some very nice early 90's 300s and Ive been pleased. Regardless of model year difference, which do you guys think will give me the better overall experience?

if you want a car that has sportiness (speed and handling) and really good looks (subjective) then i would get the 300zx. if you want more of a muscle car type thing, get the camaro. these two cars cant be more different, bout the only thing in common is their speed.
but my advice would be get the 300zx (im gonna own one myself). it is more sporty looking and you dont see one around every single corner like you do with the camaro. plus, imo, the 300zx looks so much sexier.

300zx's, more unique looking, more aggressive, you don't see em every other block, AND FAST!!! If you get the twin turbo that is

where do u live? i see tons more ss's than 300zx's. i dont see that many n/a's let alone tt's. imo i would rather have a 300zx tt than a camaro ss.

300ZXs are everywhere here (Los Angeles). Modified 300ZXs, beat up old 300ZXs, TT 300ZXs, 300ZXs with T-Top, 300ZXs with bad paint, riced 300ZXs, girls driving 300ZXs, etc etc... yawn.
Camaros are no rare treat of course. They are just as common, but it's nice to see a nicely and tastefully modified SS though, just to hear and FEEL the exhaust is very cool.

i would get the camaro if its a v8
the 300zx is a nice car but it would be much older and I'm a bit iffy about buying a used turbo car since most people dont treat them properly.

I don't think I have ever met anyone that would seriously consider two cars as different as this. My $.02: Get the 300zx. Get it with the two "go-fast" exhaust eaters (twin turbo). The ONLY way I'd pick a Camaro in this situation is if it were between an SS or an N/A 300zx. That's just because the SS has SO MUCH damn power!! (you could get the same power out of a TT 300zx with just a boost controller and some injectors  ) You can call me biased though, I've never really liked F-bodies. Camaro = drag racer, Fairlady Z = a handling car with balls too.

Ugh ..here we go again. Look..BACK IN THE LATE 60's!!! Camaro's were drag cars...umm we are in 2004 and the 4th gen Camaro's have VERY CAPABLE handling...it is such bs when people say they handle crappy. Why do you think they have no handling 'cus the ride is a little bumpy? They come stock with stiff suspension FOR HANDLING. Or is it these people don't have the balls to stay on the gas when rear tires break loose? They aren't THAT heavy either. Some early to mid nineties Z-28's weighed below 3300 pounds with a 6 speed. And Camaro's are obviously quite wide..low and have nice big tires. THEY HANDLE JUST FINE. :evillol:

im tired of people calling out somebody just cuz they say a camaro doesnt handle AS GOOD as another car. we arent saying it handles badly, it just doesnt handle AS GOOD. especially the tt will handle better for one cuz of its HICAS (all-wheel steering) system. and plus, its wider stance.

with ss bieng known to break into the 12's stock i'd pick the ss. wich is .5 sec faster than the 300zxtt bieng the ss runs 13.5, and has a 300zx been put up to a ss in handling? can a 300zx out handle a c5 vette? i have aws also but it doesn't increase the handling that much cause if i'm correct after 30mph it doesnt come in affect anymore am i right? might not be but check it out.

Have you ever driven an f-body? How about one with a beefier suspension package? You'd be suprised. Half of the gossip (and it is more than likely gossip) you hear is probably sombody talking out of their 'you know what' who has in fact never driven an f-body to begin with.

Lol Kurt dog you're wasting your breath. You should see how many times I've tried to stand up for the F-Body and got shot down on this forum.
But thanks for the backup!

These cars arent all THAT different...
sorry to break some hearts but they both handle about the same (they both pull about .88 in handling Gs around a 67-69mph through the slalom)
power wise the SS is for the most part (dont care about your brother's friend's uncle who did a 12.8 in one) is a low to mid 13 and the Z is a high 13 in the 1/4mile...
its pretty much all about preference on this one.. the SS obviously has more power potential but then again EVERYONE has a fast SS... A TT 300zx done right is no slouch and may turn a few more heads but you'll spend your life savings fixing it up (aftermarket for a TT 300zx?? whats that?)... and if it breaks... i pity you :lol2:

Yup, gotta agree with this.
I've always liked the sound of the Wooosh a blow-off valve makes in a turbo but then again I love the grunt and howl of a big V8 when its going all out. Any car, v8 or turbo can be tuned to make huge performance with enough $$$$$. Oh and there isn't much difference between a normal z28 camaro and an SS anyway, just 20-30 hp difference. Basically only a better exhaust, yet everyone here is making out like "oh if its an SS then i'd definitely go for the camao but otherwise get the 300zx".
It all depends on what look you want. I personally love the muscle car look of camaro's coz they look so damn agressive and seeing one in your rear view mirror is enough to scare the average driver :iceslolan Not to mention the roar of the monstrous v8 as it overtakes you. All Personal taste really.

thats another thing people keep on saying. put a suspension kit on f-body and see which one handles better. duh its gonna handle better if it has a better suspension.

a 300zx pulls a 89 on the skidpad, the camaro pulls a 88. meaning camaro is so close its more like a drivers race on a track. saying that, the camaro ss is faster so it would pull after the corners.

I'm biased but I say Camaro all the way if you want a fun muscle car that handle's good and has a huge aftermarket but I must admit I do think that the 300ZX TT is a cool looking car but the Camaro's are just more fun. IMO

One big factor I don't think anybody's mentioned yet is... does the 300zx burn as much fuel as the camaro ?? I gotta tell ya, camaro's are absolute petrol guzzlers. And yes everyone will say it depends on how hard you drive it, but if you have a car like a caaro or a 300zx you'll be tempted to drive it hard most of the time anyway :evillol:
If you're completely equal in both cars in terms of looks and performance, then i'd say the next comparison should be gas mileage and the price you'd pay for parts for both of these cars. Which ever has the lowest cost should be your choice.

gas mileage wise a 300zx is going to get about 17-18mpg in town and around 23-24 on the freeway... the SS gets about 18-19mpg in town and about 26-27 on the freeway
parts wise its pretty obvious the SS is going to be way cheaper to mod

I was refering the suspension packages as different trim options available on the F-bodys. You can get the available WS6 suspension upgrade for the T/A's as you could get a track ready 350Z from Nissan. I'm not sure why you interpreted it as you did, but its a bit off.

I'd just need to point out that i think the original question was refering to the low models of these cars, but I'm not sure. These cars aren't really different, pretty much the same. My LS1 weights 3402lb. not that damn heavy, and handles damn well. A v8 chugs down gas, so will a v6 TT. The people that are comparing TT's or v8 to the other's base model, well, we all know the outcome of that comparison. Ok, base model vs. bm... the 300zx is faster, hands down. Top level, v8 LS1 vs v6 TT, the LS1 is faster... and both cars handle about the same, and I'd say here in LI NY I see both about the same amount, so this is a subjective decision, wait, actually, the only pro I see is a cheaper aftermarket for the camaro.

What do 5 speed 1990-96 300zx's run in the 1/4 mile? A 3.8 liter 5 speed 1995-02 Camaro will run a low 15 in the 1/4 mile. These car's weigh nearly the same with the zx having the advantage of a higher redline and 22 hp but the Camaro has a 27 lb ft of tq. advantage for off the line power. What is the zx's top speed? Also the zx's get worse gas mileage getting 18 city and 24 highway whereas the Camaro gets 19 city and 30 highway.

i have seen a 15.1 second 1/4 mile for a n/a 300zx. and if i remember right the top speed is in the 150's-160's. so they are a pretty close match. it comes down to what style and brand do you like more. im sorry kurtdg that i didnt know there was a suspension package with the ws6, i thought you were talking about an aftermarket suspension package.

Well there is the 1le autocross package for the V8's that is pretty rare. There is also the y87 V6 performance package that is more common which includes a 3.42 lsd diff on auto's and 3.23 lsd on manuals, the Z28's steering ratio, dual exhaust and Z28 brakes.
