Picking an Exhaust

I'm looking to upgrade/replace my "exhaust" (the remaining two feet of downpipe sticking out of my engine that hasn't rusted off yet) but I'm not quite which model I want yet.

A lot of people have suggested the Apexi N1, but I want something a little different than all those three or four inch single-tip exhaust systems out there. I want an exhaust with four or two exhaust tips (four would be preferred) Think like the 3000GT VR-4 or Stealth RT-T.

Does the N1 come in that configuration, and if not, which brands do?

I am looking for Horsepower gain, but I won't be dissapointed (nor do I expect) to break triple digit gains. As far as sound goes, I'd like to be able to hear my radio again :(

Edit/Addition- I have the KA24DE engine, and i might be turboing it later on.

buy 2 mufflers (flowmaster for that deep sound)

then go to a muffler shop and have them make those pipes for you its EASY! and CHEAPER!

So are you saying that it would be cheaper to buy two mufflers and have a shop custom fit piping than buying a catback system (the apexi N1 dual for example)? If so, would they be able to provide the same piping diameter and performance?

i just did my exhaust
i got a apex-i n1 look alike 5" tip 6" canister and 2 1/2' inlet.. i went 2'25" cat back b/c my car isnt wrked and i want some back pressure and also i wana pass emmisions..
the total price was $300 with 2.5" it would be like $320.. mandlen bent also..
so now i got a apex-i n1 lookin exhaust for less then $500 which they retail for..

Two flows or a single inlet dual outlet muffler and some tubing would be a lot cheaper than an N1 and hella cheaper than a dual N1.

I absolutely cannot stand big-ass tips. There are about twenty cars that lug those things around, and every single one of them is a cavalier/neon/pre-92 Maxima/etc...so I want something different. performance or no, 4 and 5 inch tips are absolutely ugly to me.

Honest opinion, CUSTOM. Much cheaper, and just as effective, if not more. You tell them what you want, how straight you want it, and what car you have and they make it CUSTOM for you're car. And throw whatever the hell mufflers on you want.

I hadn't really considered that seriously. we do have a custom exhaust shop in town (impressive for a town that got a walmart only in the last 5 years)

Hah, wow, hick country... But anyways, yeah, run down there and get an estimate. Tell them what you want and how much they'll charge. Easy as gettin in you're car and driving there. And if you're like any of us other 240 owners, driving you're car is like heaven.

I am just sure, but I thought making your own pipes wasn't street legal compared to buying the name brand ones, correct me if i am wrong cause i don't know that much about exhaust.

OMFG. a saturn with 4 exhaust tips? All they need is one 1" tip. Quads look pretty good on a 3000gt but thats it.

Just get something that will provide power gains. Don't go all show and no go. Apex N1 adn N1 dual along with HKS systems and stealthj's idea will all give nice power gains especially combined with a good intake, header, and hi flow cat. Looks don't matter when you lose races.

It's a Saturn... nuff said ;) Would there be any performance gains to a turbo engine running 4 pipes or is it strictly aesthetic?

Invidia exhaust is looking pretty nice...it's jumped to number one on my list of potentials. I'm pricing the custom piping, muffler, and tips tomorrow.

As a final word on the "four tip" discussion, Rice isn't how many tips you have, or how big your wing is, it's an attitude. If you want to fool others into thinking your car is fast when it's not, that is rice (to me) I'm not trying to fool anyone at all. I'm doing what I want with my car, it's a form of expression, just like art and music.

how would there be any power gains??? im sure it would be more common if it had power gains. plus i have never seen a kit with dual muffler holes for a 240 so keep that in mind if u want a kit in the future(unless u have found one).

and guys with the 240 becoming more popular and popular expect riced out 240's to come with the popularity. i have come to the conclusion..."to each his own". i mean one riced out 240 wont affect the hundreds of bad ass ones ya know.....everyone know's the potential of the car!!!!

I agree about massive spoilers. I can almost see the point on a mustang, especially if he/she sees some racing in it...but the FWD Eclipses, Civics, Neons...the only reasoning I can see for spoilers on those is to increase drag, decrease fuel economy, and spend more money on gas, thus shouting "I'm stupid and rich! Hate me!" to the world.

Edit/addition: And Chuki, I promise you will find a conforting lack of "Type-R" stickers and decals on my car when I'm finished with it.

To the few of you who made the saturn jokes/comments should speak cautiously, I know more than enough saturns that could pull on you like you were standing still.

As for dual exhaust, it's going to kill your low end if your car is N/A (I didn't really read through all of your posts so yeah). But I'm sure if done right it wouldn't look too bad.

If I were to do a dual setup I'd have something custom made like on the new neons (not the SRT-4, they have no muffler).

M5 happens to have a v-8 2 banks of cylndiers so there is a reason for 2 exhaust. Now the 2 tips thats just style so if you want 2 tips go ahead but 2 exhaust is a waste of piping adds weight and makes us "twats" laugh at you and we will keep doing so.

Acesnyper, I can see where some people are getting confused. I don't intend to have two pipes running from the engine to muffler. only one pipe going into dual mufflers. problem solved.

Flowmaster makes a single inlet, dual outlet. You can just get dual tips.
