:screwy: this is making me crazy, to set the timing on my 94-454 i'm supposed to disconnect the timing connector, every book and everybody i've seen or talked to says it's a black plug with a tan/black wire, near the distributor. well, there is NOT, it's not there, i've got the gray box under dash with the chip, but no tan/black wire. can't find a picture or diagram anywhere that shows me exactly which one it is ( there's about 10 in that area) can anybody help me identify the right one? :banghead:

Look under dash passenger side, you will see the main wire harness coming from engine compartment. Follow it to where it starts to go under dash (glovebox area) you should see electrical tape wrapped around harness holding a tan wire with black tracer. This wire has a connector that you can unplug and set your timing. It shouldn't be wrapped very good, just enough to hold it to the harness, but it can be hard to spot.

If the wire is where it is on my 88 chevy then the wire is on the passenger side, under the hood on the firewall. There is a cover that says fuel pump relay, fuel pump fuse, and a couple other things. Well when you take it off there is a tan and black wire to disconnect. You might have to move part of the wire loom to find the wire. I usually set my timing to about 8 degrees btdc with the advance hooked up or 16 degrees btdc without the advance hooked up. Otherwise, go by whatever is stated under the hood. Good luck
