the starter on the wife's jetta went out over the weekend... got the original out and put back in the new one. hooked everything back up, but when i hook the battery back up the alarm instantly goes off. i tried to put key in driver door and turn but nothing. i cant even check to see if the starter is working b/c the alarm disables ignition switch. any other ideas on how to turn alarm off? thanks for any clues.

Was the alarm system working before disconnecting the battery, particularly the disarm function with the key in the driver door? Putting the key in the passenger door & unlocking should also turn off the alarm. If that works suspect the driver door switch. If neither work you can disconnect the alarm module (located just above the fuse/relay panel), disconnect the battery first. Reconnect the battery and check that pin #7 is hot (12V+) when either side lock is turned to lock position. Pin # 6 is hot when either side lock is turned to unlock position. If not repair the switch or wiring. If the switches are working replace the control module.
