My civic is my daily driver, if I put 17's on my car will I lose much / any miles to the gallon? Do I have to change anything else to put bigger rims on my car? Is there anything I should know before upgrading?

consider gettin lowering springs or coilovers aswell

Lowering my car is my next mod, I am confused as to what kind of springs / coilovers to get. I am gonna do some searching on it

well firstly decide on springs or coilovers...

what is your budget?

well most 17s are heavy if you can get some nice light ones you will have no problems really your gearing will be a bit taller so keep that in mind. Ride will be a little rougher to due lack of tire to soak it up. IMO 16s are better for proformance then 17s *and i think functiol looks sweet so also better looking too*
I my self run 15s

i think 15s look too small so 16s are a good comprimise.

im not sure if they ship to US but www.rarerims.co.uk do mugen replicas which are very lightweight and still very strong at low prices - i know thats where i'll be getting my alloys from!

I have the money to do both springs and shocks but I am lost as to which ones and what all I need, I am still researching

and coilovers...

well if u feel like you need very good handling (eg racing/track days?) get coilovers. i would if i could afford them (around £300/$500 in UK)

JDM ones are quality (Spoon etc.) but are a bit pricey...

This is my daily driver, I wont be doing any autocross

lol ok - some (-35mm?) springs will probably be best then - cheaper and a smoother ride - although you realise that springs will worsen the standard ride quality?

What I am looking for is a 2inch drop (will that work OK with 17's?) and a smooth ride all around. What would be the best equipment to do this?

the other choice is to ditch the idea of springs and just stay with smaller alloys - maybe go an inch bigger than you have already but with low profile tyres

yeh a 2 inch drop with 17s should be fine!

remember its more likely to rub without springs cos they bounce more... lowered springs are stiffer and so wont bounce as much.

- this is of course as long as thy arent stupidly low... 2inch should be fine though but could be a harsh ride for a daily driver unless you dont mind too much...

So it sounds like I dont need coilovers, I can just buy springs. What about shocks and struts?

EK nick

um... its your choice - with a 2inch/50mm drop you may need to buy better shocks to cope with the change in angle...
most places recommend you to upgrade shocks.

not sure about struts though... can anyone else help with this?

ok, I will look into how much shocks are.

i think they will be a close match to the price of the actual springs themselves...

i have 17s on my ek civic hatch. It is lowered 2.25 inches on neuspeed race springs and koni yellow shocks. The car is also my daily driver. The drop on the car suits the rims well. As for ride quality, well it is fine for me, (but my girl hates it!). The neuspeeds and konis are great quality. I have the konis on the medium setting and the ride is not too harsh and it seems to cope well with the crappy british roads.

i test drove a 98 GS-R with 17s on a 40 series tire with stock springs/shocks. it rode worse than my 90 integra with 14 year old suspension, DROPZONE coilovers (harsh as fuck), and BLOWN stock shocks. 17s are :gay: . after that i replaced my dropzone coils with skunk2 lowering springs (progressive spring rate  ) and KYB GR-2 shocks. rides almost as comfortable as stock, just a little stiffer, which, is better anyway :D
