Hi!, hope someone can help me with this.
I am having some problems to start the car. It will start only if the all of the following occur:
1. The check engine light (plus all the others) have to be on when the switch is in the ON position . If all the red light are on, but the Orange one is not, it just won't start.
2. When cranking, the check engine light has to OFF, but the oil and battery (if I remenber well) have to ON.
I know the battery and the starter work fine since the engine turns. The problem occurs the least when the engine is cold, and the most when the car has been running for a while.
Thanks for your help.
Julio

Are you saying that you must start cranking before the orange check engine light goes out to get it to start, but it will not start if you wait until it goes off then start cranking? Or are you saying that sometimes the orange light doesn't come on at all & then it won't start. Normally when you turn the key on the check engine light will come on for a few seconds for it's self check & then goes out. It usually doesn't matter if it goes off before cranking. If the check ligth doesn't come on when you first turn the key on then I doubt it will start. In that case off the cuff I'd suspect ignition switch problems, but first I'd check for codes. See my post on the thread "VR6 cranks but wont start" in this forum for proceedure.

THe thing is that sometimes the orange light, specially if the car has been running for a while, won't light in the on position. SO if I crank the starter, the engine will turn but the car won't start. So I need that orange light on in the on position.
Then when cranking, some of the other lights (red ones) have to be on. Sometime I an cranking but no lights are on, so engine won't start, but if the red light (baterry oil, etc) are on again, the engine will start. Believe me , sound weird but its how it works.
Any idea.
Thanks

If you can turn the key to on position & you don't get all the lights (especially the orange check engine light), I doub't it would start because there is no power to the engine control module. Since it seems to do it more often when hot I would suspect a bad connection somewhere. While it could be other places, the most common for your car is the electrical part of the ignition switch.

Hey boshman, could you please explain how exactly am I suppose to check my OBD1 with a cable? am I suppose to ground it or connect it to the battery? Do I repeat the process with each one of the ports in the OBD 1 harness? Thanks a lot

Look at the thread "VR6 engine turns but won't start" in this forum. I've tried to cover it there.
