'03 1/2 Ton Whining noise/groan

Hi folks,
I've got an '03 1/2 ton burb - 2wd. I purchased this vehicle new and have approximately 25,000 miles on it. I have an intermittent whining / groaning noise which seems to be coming from the passenger side front wheel well. This happens at low speed - seems to happen primarily when the vehicle is cold. It usually occurs after backing out of the driveway or making turns in a parking lot. I used to think it was associated with the steering - but the noise also occurs when driving at low speeds and not turning. We brought it back to the dealer and had the steering gear replaced (service bulletin on this). This did not solve the problem. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!! It's an annoying noise but I'm primarily concerned about the mechanical reliability.

check the balljoints and wheel bearing at that wheel.
