The Choices

All right guys, it's lifetime decision time. I'm not quite sure which path to take, but they're all laid out in front of me. I don't know if I want to go to the military or just goto college.

Yeah, my family wants to me to do what I want, but I'm not too sure what I want to do. I've always wanted to be a Marine or a member of some special forces... I know someone else asked about this before but I need more info. I have to consider the following:

Where would I go for training?
Where would I go after that?
Do they really pay for college?
If yes, how long, and what degree could I obtain?

Any other answers will be welcome too. Thanks guys.

If you go into the armed forces, they pay for your college, however, you owe them several years of military service. Though you are an officer.

is it possible for me to create a poll on this now that I already posted it? If not I'm not making a new thread but I am curious as to if I can.

Goooooooo for it. I'm air force, its fucking awesome!!!

Special forces, harder than you think man. you'll need to be (this is how OUR SF works) general military for a while, THEN sit the tests, by the way, you see the fitness standards the SF ask for? These are the MINUMUM requirements to have them even THINK about taking you, then you do the REAL testing.

Yanks have 18X contract, which is direct entry SF.

Also, USAF have direct entry for PJs. This is what I would recommend.

Dont sign the contract until you are exceeding the fitness standards.

www.specialtactics.com

Be nice and be respectfull on those kinds of sites. Dont ask stupid questions and DO SEARCHES FIRST. That is the number one downfall on sf sites.

Also I think USAF is out've the question... I was kicked out of my USAF High School and am not allowed to come back, even to visit. I doubt the AF has any interest in me .

The problem was I cared more about my Flight and Squadron's condition than I did about my own personal gain... mistake. Big mistake. I really like the idea of being a PJ though... Z3 aren't you one? What are the physical requirements?

From the marines I've met, you don't even need to be able to spell your own name, just beat up a tank with your bare hands.

No one can tell you want ya want. Um...you a senior??? I'm assuming, but there's this campat each of the Academiess, Naval, Army, and Airforce and you spend a week there seing what it would be like. If you're not intot he Academiess, there's also places like VMI (Virgina Military Institute) and The Citadel which are academies but not as...much of a mjiitary experience. They're more like your boarding schools. Get it?

Yes, you would owe them some years or you could elist which is athought for me. You enlist for the sametime you would owe but you wouldn't be in as long. YA see, in the Academies, it's like you're in the military then you owe 4 more years. If you enlist you maybe in for 4 or 5 years going to collge by way of outside classes an not the "true college experience, and you're getting paid.

I'm a true military brat and been through all this so if you have more questions and want answers directly, IM me. Hope some of this helped.

I meant by "no one can tell you what you want" that joining the military, it's hard to descirbe. The whole camp thing helped out a lot. They have a seccesion in June, maybe you can still sign up. Just check out the Acdemy sites.

hehe.

I probably should take offense to that, being as I served 8 years as a Marine, but most of the RAAF i met are generally OK, so i'll let it slide....

ifyou have specific USMC questions, look me up on AIM.

Remember this: that sig on the dotted line is 4 years. Be ready for that, because with the good comes the bad.

I'm pretty sure it's going to be the Marine Corps. I really want to do Force Recon but I don't know the requirements... no one wants to tell me. On AIM I'm ban1shed if anyone wants to drop me a line on their opinion... matada I'll definately give you an IM sometime soon. Thanks for the input I await more replies!

There are prior Olympic athletes/hopefuls that thought they'd fly through PJ training. They didn't, I shit you not. Just like in any SF training, they test your mental endurance too, as well as your physical limits.

I HIGHLY recommend service, as I guarantee that you will have a whole different view of the world when you get out of boot camp. You can take college courses while you are in, and if you go for a degree related to your job (certain PJs are EXCELLENT field doctors, though they get no civilian credentials for what they know), some of your college credits will already have been covered.

So that makes you a pussy.
Umm..no

I am originally from Croatia and there you have to server like 2 years after you turn 20 or so. And you dont get paid for it. ITs a big waste of time, and maybe your life. Common...waiting on my U.S. passport....so i dont have to serve it.

And no, Im not being a pussy, just resonable.

I'm not sorry if I offend you with this statement:

It's obvious you're a poor dumb bastard because you're coming into a nation that is rather proud of its military ragging on its members... aren't you a bright one?

By the way... what you're doing is similar to what we call "draft hopping" which is the same thing as treason. So yes... yes you are a fuckin pussy. :banghead:

Been a while since I argued with somone.

Anywas, sure if your poor and want to go for a scholarship, Im sure you should go. But I wouldnt go into battle. You can work as a medic or other jobs other than that. Anyways its your choice, and i am just saying what i think OK?

Sonny, im not dumb or poor. Sure I aint rich but I aint poor. U learn world history?eh? I suppose not. Cause if you would have, you would have known that europeans/ asians settled in America around 1500s.

Do what you want. I dont really care, as youre acting like a jackass.

Damien

Just to take some pride in this country, dude, what the heck did your history lesson have anything to do with this? 2nd of all, he never said you were poor. I don't want to be drafted, i hate the idea but i see it's reason and it's a small price I pay for the country I live in and the freedoms I get. If you're coming here I think you should see that. If you don't and look as serving as a waste of time, then you shouldn't even be allowed here! Go and stay where ever you are man and stay out of our f%$kin' country!!!

And to say about poor...ah heck man, I'm far from it. In fact I'm going to a private school for 30 grand a year but I'm actually thiking of joining since I do have some pride and dignity for what has been given to me. Get your passport but don't come round here or nay military city, wait, I'll go with my orginal statement, don't come!!!

P.S. I apologize for the flame but you know mods, somethings just get be let go....

First I want to say that I apologize for most of what I said. I've had a bad day (like all us of do occasionally) and it was out of line. You are entitled to your opinion just as I am. You live the way you want and I'll live the way you want BUT, I showed no disrespect to you in my original posting and I did/do not appreciate the disrespect you sent to me about my choice of lifestyle. I appreciate your comment on how you do not think the idea of joining the military is a good idea but to comment beyond that was tasteless.

Also I didn't call you poor on a financial level, I mean poor in a pity kind of way.

Subject dropped.
