Head Noise

Hi all. Need some help. I recently changed my timing, and now I have a
tinny type of rattle coming from the distributor side of the head.I was wondering if my distributor is going. It only does it at rpms above 3k, so I first thought it may be something vibrating. But it has bogged on me a couple of times today, when I gave it a lot of gas at lower rpms.Does any1 know of any tell tale signs of a bad distributor? Or any1 else had similar problem after belt change? Any info would be much appreciated.
P.S. It is running great other then the 2 times it bogged.Thx.

I just finished replacing my timing belt as well and I'm getting the same sound coming from the distributor. I was thinking that it's because of the cold weather and maybe it has to warm up but I'm not taking any chances and I'm going to pull off the rocker cover again and make sure all my timing marks are matching up to where they are supposed to be.

yup make sure all the marks line up. if they do then its the belt.

I checked all the marks and they were fine. The sound is right at the distributor, so I wouldn't think it would be the belt, but who knows. I t is still running fine. Think it could be the header? I put it on at the same time. It hits my oil pan.Think the vibrations could be coming from the head, traveling through the block from the header? I 'm gonna take that off this weekend and bend the pipes to clear the pan, hopefully that will get rid of it.Oh and Craigy, pls tell what you find.

I went back into my engine and wouldnt you know it the cams were still lined up on the marks but the pully mark is off. I redid the whole thing again and after doing the belt adjustment and rotating the engine around again the pully mark is off AGAIN!!!!
So I guess when I do the tension adjustment it actually moves the pulley around that little bit enough to put the timing off. So I guess I have to put the pulley mark back a little while the belt is slack the tighten the belt and hopefully get it on the mark. Make sense?
Tomorrow. I'm done for today.

Hmm..... that's odd. You would think only the waterpump would move seeing that there is no pressure there. I know I had to rotate the crank till the cam gears were 3 teeth past TDC. That was the only way to get the tensioner good and tight. Also, have you put a timing light on it?

Well I guess I don't have a whole lot of compression left in my 160,000 mile motor because I can crank the whole thing over with my hands on the pulley! So every time I adjust the tensioner up it moves the pulley that little bit. I'm going to try lining everything up and then tightening the belt adjuster up against the belt  without rotating the 3 teeth over. I know that the engine ran perfect before I started this whole thing so I just want to get it back to that. All I have to do is get all three marks lined up and the belt tight at the same time.
