When (and why) were the Corvette flags reversed???

My brother-in-law and I both just got new Vettes (I beat him by 10 days, hehehe) and he also has a '67. I was looking at mine parked next to it and realized the crossed flags have been reversed since 1967. It's a silly thing to be curious about, I know, but I've searched all over the internet trying to find out when and why it was done, and can't find the answer. Now I'm asking you folks.
I joined this site just to ask that question but now that I've read some of the posts, I think I'll stick around a while...

ME: The flag emblems on vettes changed for each sucessive generation (C1,2,3,4,5, etc...). IE : The first vette came out in 1953 , then the flag changed in 1963 (?), then again in 1968 they changed, then again in 1984, then again in 1997 , and will again for the C6 vette.
Does this answer your question ??

Not completely. They changed the style of the flags over the years as you say, but when did they swap the flags left to right? On the '67, the checkered flag was on the right and the fleur-de-lis and Chevy symbol was on the left. Today it's vice versa.
It's a little thing, I know, but it must have been done for a reason. I can imagine top-level GM execs debating such a change for months...
