Engine Swap

I have a 1992 80 with a 2.3L gasoline engine, that doesn't run. Can I put an engine from a 1988 5000S in it?

put in on a lift and when the frame breaks in half you can junk it.

Why?
Because I need a car to drive and don't have much money, so I have to work with what I have. I don't care about performance enhancements I just need to know if the swap is possible.

Hey, Have yhou made the engine swap yet? Depends on why your original engine quit for one thing. The basic block should be the same. Heads and head gaskets might be different tho. Watch out for water jacket holes in the wrong location on the head gaskets. Of course all the fuel injection stuff will be different too. Your local library should or might have Mitchell manuals in which you can learn a lot of stuff about your car.. Best.
