dell has to be one of the worst computers in the world. there seems to be something always wrong with it. it took 2 1/2 hours to install a different video card. it freezes all the time and it pisses me the hell off. why cant things just work like they are supposed to.

My dell works fine. They have decent tech support and maybe the problem is the fact that YOU installed the video card. Idunno, I haven't had problems with dells

Actually Dell is probably the BEST brand name computer you can buy. Unfortunately, as is with anything someone is bound to get a shit machine. I had one(until I built my own, yes it is great way to go Neutrino) and my dad and roomate have one. No problems ever on any of the machines. When I still had the Dell I got lost doing a re-install of the OS and Dells customer service walked me through it in no time. I've heard a lot of people complain about customer service at Dell but I don't know anyone that's ever had trouble with them. And they are ranked #1 as the best quality and customer service.

Sorry you got a shit model. However, if you bought a refurbished one, you get what you paid for.

Yeah, I tried installing a new video card in my dell and it messed things up big time. It kept saying it wasnt recieving enough power and shit and would keep going to the blue screen of death. I found that the service phone number verry helpfull in returning my computer to normal and found out why the instalation went bad. I didn't know that I had to uninstall the original drivers before puting in a new video card and some other stuff. But I am going to wait till my computer becomes outdated then I will build my own computer because that is the way to go.

The higher end Compaq's tend to be a little better than just the run of the mill one. But it's still far superior to Packard Bell. I was always embarrassed for my friends that had one.

out of the large brands then you are probably right. However the best I would say is Alienware(they build computers as I would do - using only the best parts)

Rule#3-don't expect any recourse when your custom made computer fucks up.

if build properly a custom computer will not go bad for many many years, me and polygon have computers we build over 10 years ago and still run like new.

I'm sure Oz or Yogs have old computers lying around too

BTW don't ask why we have ancient computers lying around.

plus the parts used in custom computers have in average 3 year warranties

Ahh Alienware is some sick shit. I just buy the best parts and put it together myself, as alienware is way too expensive

I bought my computer from a small independent shop in my town. Besides a faulty videocard from factory (which got replaced under warranty), she's fucking perfect. Never crashes.

They also changed my CPU cooler for me and all I had to pay for the was the cooler itself :D

Dude, as the owner of a computer company, 99% of the time it is not the computer. It is a software problem. I am not sure about the video card stuff above though. I do not like Dells. Gateway's suck too. Go with IBM, HP, or Sony. Any of you got KaZaa (or similar program)? That is the source of 40% of computer problems. Get some GOOD virus scan (like McAfee) and a GOOD spyware removal tool (AdAware 6.0). Just don't download so much stuff. If you want to do that, get a used shitty computer and do it all on that. I do all my downloading of music, etc on a destop. My IBM ThinkPad is perfect - no problems. Used the restoration CD if you have to.

HP or Sony? Those are absolutely horrible. HP makes fantastic printers, but their computers are shit. Everyone of my friends that have one that I've used was complete and utter junk. And they were brand new. Sony is about the worst. I would classify them quite close to Packard Bell.

Almost any computer(there are exceptions) that you can buy in mass quantity at a store like Best Buy or Circuit City aren't of great quality. I recommend Dell and Gateway as well as IBM. This may sound as just my opinion, but its the exact same setiments that all the computer geeks I know share.

By the way, what's the name of your company? And what do you specialize in?

I have heard terrable things about Gateways...and in my opinion with them comming out with digital cameras and plasma Tvs only shows that they are going downhill. Dell, i have heard mixed opinions about. I love the IBM stuff. It is a bit more $$$ but well worth it. That is all i sell to my clients.

I would rather not post the name of the company here, but we do hospital and doctors office's networks. It is also a billing company.

sony makes every product under then sun, yet you would recommend them. and Hp's are terrible computers, think compaq presario bad. gateways are good computers, have good warranties, and good customer service. i've had my gateway laptop since july and haven't had a problem with it.
