car trouble, engine noise

my 1991 240sx (137,000miles) seems to have a slight noise from the timing chain area in the front of the engine. we pulled the valve cover and did not see anything that stood out. i would appreciate any help with it if anyone knows. thank you

If the noise only happens for the first 15 seconds or so of starting up, this is normal for the 240, and should be comming from the timing chain area, and according to nissan is not a deterimental to the car. If it is persistant, then you have a problem.

I don't know of a single KA 240sx that hasn't had this problem. If the noise doesn't bother you much just leave it alone, it won't really hurt anything. If you want to stop the noise check out 240sx.org.

its a dual overhead cam!!

It is almost inevitable unless you idle everywhere. the chain does stretch some, but more than likely the tensioners are worn out.

ummm...manji240, where does he say its sohc?? if your refering to "singe ka 240 sx" he means he hasnt seen a ka without a problem. has nothing to do with dohc or sohc

yea he got issues about people thinking a 91 is a sohc...which it is not but still lol
