Alright I know the problem. I was lured into buying this car because it was an old mans car and it was one owner with all work receipts. What i didn't realize was that the old man had the valves done and all the coolant system changed at one time for a reason. This car has 150,000 easy drove miles on it but, the rings have been going bad for many years (i contacted the mechanic who did all the work and said that the old man was putting all this stuff in it to try and cover up the problem). Now i am at the point that it burns 2 quarts of oil in about 800 miles.

My question is what should i do to try and make this motor last. I want to put and ls1 or a similar crate 350 in it but, i am not sure exactly how much work this will be and if it is even worth me doing myself. So basically i need some advice because i really love this car and it is great every where except the motor. It still has plenty of power (even for the 305) and still does a good job at shutting up the occasional ricer (i am 18 so you know how a foot can "SLIP" to the floor sometimes. I just would really like to know what everone thinks. I will post pics soon.

What year is your Caprice? I would consider just putting in another engine from an identical car if it is a 91 or up. If it's anything earlier than that, just stick any small block you want in there.

I have a 93 305 and i've asked about when engines can go in there. if u don't want to get into computers, just change it with a engine ready for carb/tbi. LS1 is a pretty expensive change. I remember like 10,000 dollors. maybe alittle less. I'll probably change mine with a 350 with 330 HP. Here are some sites with crate engines.

Hey thanks man i was thinking about having a shop do it and since i am going into basic training in june for the air force i am going to wait till i am done with all that. I want an ls1 but i will settle for a regular 350. I am going to make this big body a sleeper.
