Hi Everybody,

I just brought home my new 1964 Beetle and it's a great hit with my kids and all the people I passed on the road, mostly pedestrians, not passing much more with 36 hp. I really love the car, it's in great shape other than some dents and dings. It has been garage kept by the orginal owner since it was new in 1964. The floor pans and heater boxes are in unbelievable condition. I'm very new to this and looking foward to making this car a real show piece. I was hoping to get some advice and perhaps share some, as I work on this project.

So far I have replaced the front brakes and just starting on replacing the dented fenders. I have been spraying the bolts everyday to help in the removal. Looking for any hints for replacing the fenders or running boards?

The speedometer makes a awful squeeling sound when it hits around 40 mph? Any imput would be greatly appreciated.

Looks like some oil leaking under engine? It runs smooth , does not smoke at all.

Can anyone suggest a good repair manual that includes troubleshooting? I have one from th local Library that is not very helpful.

Thanks for any advice/input,

Jerry

John Muir's "idiot Book" is a classic aimed at novice mechanics and do-it-yourselfers. Bentley publishers print the best comprehensive repair manual available for Volkswagens. Both are widely available on eBay.
