1987 trans am engine swap

i have a 87 trans am with a blown 305 engine. I ordered a 350 engine for it, between the years 87 and 93, my question is will the computer system from, the 305 work with the 350 , or will it not work at all woth it.

What do you mean by 'ordered a 350? The 350's changed from 87 to 93, especially in cyl head and intake design.
Look for a 350 which will accept the intake, ignition and all the TBI hardware, and all the exhaust from your existing set up. Your computer will not tell the difference between the old 305 and the 350, and you will have more power. A revised ECM chip specifically designed for a 350 will help build power, but is not essential.
BTW the stock 5 speed will not hold up with a hard driven 350 and WILL let go. The automatic will be fine.

i have a tuned port injection, i ordered an engine that will work. i justed wanted to make sure the computer would not have to be completely changed

honestly it doesnt really matter if you have a 305 or a 350...if the 350 isnt tpi all you have to do is take the heads off the 305 tpi...put it on the 350 and put the intake on it..(reason for switching heads is because the intake patter is usually diffrent than normal heads) then just hook up everything the way it was...the 305 ecm will run your 350 just fine...the only diff between the 305 ecm and 350 ecm is the prom (i believe) if even that at all. so if your going to buy a ecm...just get a reprogrammed one for the 350.

if i would have to change the computer, would a compiter out of an old chevy or gmc truck originally with a 350 in it from the same year work?
