Poor throttle response after belt change.

1990 Integra GS. Put on a new timing belt which was tricky due to the fact that the crank gear would turn abit as I tried to get the belt over the cam gear. Is it possible for the car to run when one cam gear is off by one tooth? I put my foot into it but it's very slow then all of a sudden it takes off! If it is the cam gear being off can somebody tell me of a way to get more slack on the belt to make it easier to get over the gears.

align the cams to top dead center. when there are tdc you will notice a hole at the top of the cams near the cam gears. you can stick a small screw driver in these holes to help hold the cams in place while putting the timing belt on. as you already found out they want to turn slightly.
as for the slack, the only way is the belt tensioner. yeah it sucks trying to reach that. one ghetto way to do it i found out, is to take one cam preferably the one nearest the exhaust manifold and remove it. you can manuever the cam in a way that you can slide the belt over the cam gear and then tighten it back down.
