I have a 95 Jeta GLX VR6 with about 130K. Lately I notice a Knocking noise everytime I am coasting down the street on a stright of way. I think it might be my cv joints, but I am still skeptical since I always believed that when it was the cv joints the noise would first appear everytime one would turn the wheels. My car makes no such sounds as I turn the wheels. Please help me !

clicking when coasting? does it click when you takeoff too? or when you suddenly hit the gas? might be broken motor mount ratling?

I had a similar problem on my 97 Jetta. My daughter took it to a mechanic and he told her that she had a broken motor mount. I checked it out and told her I thought it was a bad CV joint. When I got under the car I saw that the rubber boot had a split in it and all of the grease had slung out and water had gotten into the boot. The CV joint was bad because it had alot of play in it. I replaced it and still had a clunking sound at times. I got my son to hold down the brake while in drive and gently give the accelerator gas and then I could see the back of the engine rise up. Sure enough the motor mount on the back side was broken so we were both right.
