Silverado dome/map light wiring info needed

I've acquired a dome/map light I'd like to install in my 2001 Silverado ext. cab. Think it's out of a Suburban. It looks like the dome light in the rear cab of my Silverado except it is a little larger, has map lights and has three wires for hook up. A black wire, an orange wire and a grey with black strip.
My original has only two wires........ a white one and an orange one. I'm hoping somebody can help me to hook these up to work correctly. Don't really want to try by trial and error.
I called JD Customs who sells these for $49.00 and the guy I talked to said an instruction sheet was included with each one sold. When I asked if he could tell me which wires to hook up he said he thought one might have to be run to a ground.......... didn't really seem like he wanted to divulge much info.
Has anybody any experience hooking one up?? Thanks in advance!

I'm going to assume that the black is ground, one wire goes to the door switch and the other MIGHT go to the dimmer, not 100% sure....

I am just looking at my Chilton Manual, unfortunately, only up to a '98, but orange should be fused 12 volts (constant), white is a wire switched from your door switch, and I dont know about the black. My suggestion is to take a 12 volt battery and WITH A FUSE, touch the black wire to power and if that doesn't work, to ground. I suspect the black wire might be a constant power lead for the map lights. Otherwise use a multimeter to measure out for ground.

orange to orange, white to gray/black, and black to ground, test to make sure, but i'm pretty sure thats right. the burbans changed thier white to a gray black in 99 i think.

The last 2 posts are absolutely correct. Black is GROUND, WHITE is SWITCHED, ORANGE is CONSTANT. your original light (if you still have it) was grounded throught the screws. So you will have to ground the new light the same way. I install overhead TVs with dome lights in them so I do those types of modifications all of the time.
