turboing an rs

I just wanted to know if anyone can give me a link or where I can find some info about turboing an rs. I was wondering if its a good idea to go and get a turbo from a gst or gsx from the dismantlers here and installing on an rs? Or is it better to buy a gs-t instead? How much work will this be and what other aftermarket parts will I need that are not salvageable from an old gst? I appreciate all the help, thanks!

The turbo of the gst/x can not be used in the rs

Go to the Hahn Racecraft site to find out information about turboing the n\a. To do that you are looking at at least $3000. The rs and gs have different motors from the gst and gsx, so those parts wouldn't work.

the only thing that wouldnt work off of a GST or GSX is the manifold and the IC pipes... but you can still use the manifold, just do like i did, cut the flange off of the turbo manifold and cut the flange off of the non turbo manifold and weld the turbo flange to the non turbo manifold, grind it down smooth and paint it... it actually doesnt look bad at all!!!

As stated earlier, IMO i wouldnt turbo an RS. Just save your money, or the money you were going to use for the turbo, to buy a gsx or a gs-t. IMO that would be the smarter choice.

i vote for keeping the car and turboing that. some people(like me) cant really pay all that extra insurance for the gst/x so you kinda have to work with what you got. Star stage 1.... about $1800 which will get you going pretty good

hey man if you wanna turbo your rs ... do wut eclipserst did im doin the same thing he did with my gs and its hella cheaper too. if u no the right people with the parts do what i did.. i got the parts for about 400 bucks 14 b turbo 450 cc injectors fuel rail oil pan and turbo manifold downpipe and fuel pump with side mount you got any questions ask eclipserst hes the expert at this.. PAYCE!

I think it would be worth it to buy the gst or gsx instead. You can't be too sure how long rs internals will handle boost, especially if you are boosting as high or higher psi than on a gst or gsx. You have to remember, the latter engines are built to have turbos on them; the former are not. What do you know about the durability of the chrysler engines in rs when they're turbo'd, Jake?

I think you can't boost more than 10 psi...
After that you will have to upgrade internals.

yea your right... if you do put any type of turbo on a stock 420a do not boost over 10psi... for daily driving i wouldnt push more than 7-8psi just to be on the safe side! for 1500-2000 you can easily turbo your non turbo and be quicker than a stock GST or GSX, then you stick a couple grand into the block and do some head work, then you will start to like it a lot!!!

eclipserst, did you get your parts from a junkyard? I would like to be able to get all of the parts for cheap if it would work. When you have the time could you start a thread stating the parts that we would need to make a successful conversion. It could be like one of those threads that sits at the top like the list of sites.

That's a great suggestion. I too am interested in putting a turbo on my RS. I would switch it for a GS-T, but insurance would be too expensive.

yea i can start a thread... but SINCE NO MOD WILL ANSWER MY PM's, i wont be able to get it stickied! so either me or someone will have to keep postin so it stays towards the top... so the newbies would quit posting "how to turbo RS-GS"
