this happend the same night i got my car back. anyways ii know i have no chance in hell if i take him from a dig, so we went on the highway where things are alittle more even. we went from a 60mph roll in 3rd. ( not my ideal speed ) but we were holding up traffic so we went. the STi imediately jumped a car on me ( damn lagless turbo ) and kept on pulling until around 3 cars, then my 3rd gear boost finally hits and his pull died down alot but still walkin slowly. then we shift to 4th and his pull completely dies, by around 95mph i was slowly reeling him in, but we had to slow down beucsae there was traffic up ahead. grrrrr those things are that damn quick from a roll too. i was surprise he jumped on me htat hard. i'm pretty sure if we kept on goin by the time i hit my limiter we would be around dead even. but now i just installed a larger front mount intercooler but i honestly don't feel any difference in power. :disappoin

Good run man. Interestingly the EVO's are actually dynoing identical to the STi, although the STi has a flatter torque curve. Don't feel bad for losing to your buddies STi, cause those cars are ridiculously expensive.

Dont Intercoolers rob horsepower?

Up the boost and itll be cut closer :)

Oops, i just read the power pages of import Tuner. I have to correct myself now. The STi dynos at 249 awhp, whereas the EVo dynos at only 236 awhp on the average. That's quite a bit of a difference :( Oh well. ~sigh~

No, they might cause you a little more spool time depending on the size. Intercoolers add horsepower because they cool the intake charge. Colder air means more horsepower, but it isn't a great deal of horsepower. The benefit to an intercooler is being able to run higher boost pressures and cut down on the chance of detonation.

A couple of things you're missing: If the STi was in 3rd gear, and you were at a 60 MPH rolling start, the STi would be at about 4000 RPM, right smack dab in the middle of its tourque peak with the turbo fully spooled and ready to go. Contrary to popular belief, there is noticeable turbo lag on the STi.

If the two of you are shifting into 4th at the same time, then the STi driver wasn't full throttle. The gearing difference between the two is huge, and the 3rd-4th shift is at about 75 MPH in the STi, which is lower than most cars out there.

At 115, the STi still pulls strong in 5th (the fastest I've had mine), I don't know what the runs out in 3rd gear was reference to.

Polygon summarizes what an intercooler does quite well.

I consider the STi to be an extremely good value for the money. Aside from the EVO, what other new cars are out there that you can get that have 250 HP and a factory warranty for under $40k US?

Oh yes, and it's snowing here today too. I feel sorry for anyone with a RWD car in conditions like this.

Yea, I agree with him there. I was just in a friend's STI the other day and it continued to pull pretty hard all the way to 110+. I don't know what everyone is talking about with the "hitting the wall" comments. Stop jumping on the bandwagon people:rolleyes:

I have also read reports that 6th on an Sti pulls like no other. Although there are too many shifts down a 1/4 run, and 4th and 5th are too widely-spaced apart...once you get to 5th and 6th, it's like it regains some lost air, and start to pull in earnest once again.

I agree. That might be true of the WRX, but not the STi.

well i when i race racing him. i was referring to when i hit 4th gear. i would have no clue what gear he would be in. but at 60mph he was at 5K rpm in 3rd. and i wish i could turn up the boost, but that would ruin my afc settings and i don't have a msd btm so i can't controll timing and my MAF is almost maxed out so i'm not goin to run it risky. but i have notice a noticable more lag and i'm guessing i'm gettin around a 2 psi pressure drop becusae when i would normally read 0 on the boost gauge at a certain throttle position i'm reading -4 inches of mercury on vac. so yeah i'm probrably dropping 2 psi.

I can think of a few other cars.

Whys that? I dunno about other drivers but I enjoy sliding around. Also, my car doesnt loose control in the snow. Only if I give it extra gas then my ass is going sideways. :D (With Trac Control off ofcourse)
