Computer odometer question

My 2002 truck had the computer replaced under warranty a year after I bought it. I was reading the forums and some people are posting that the computer also stores the odometer reading. As far as I know, all the dealer did was put a new computer in. How can I tell if the odometer was set to the mileage at the time? Does it clear when disconnected from the battery? I want to make sure my computer matches my display so I don't have to explain the discrepency when I sell the vehicle. I can easily explain with warranty receipts, but fear they will lower the value due to the conflicting readings if it was not done properly.

I am looking to buy a new truck later this year and do not want anyone questioning the miles on the truck. I have the records of the computer that was replaced, but don't want to explain if I don't have to. Around here the mere hint of tampering drastically reduces the price. This was done by a Chevy dealer so the last thing I need is hassle over it.

Any way to check to make sure it was done correctly? If not can the computer be matched (computer would show less) if I took it back to the dealer that did the original work. Is it even possible to reset the computer or do I have to live with it and hope my paperwork answers any questions.

I don't think you have to worry about that. I might be wrong, but I don't think the PCM stores the odometer reading. As long as the odometer has the same amount of miles on it when they changed the PCM, you should be fine..Mike..

That's what I always thought. I didn't even think about it when they replaced the computer under warranty. I have been reading these threads about the Escalade cluster and some people mentioned the computer stores the odometer and that got me to thinking. Good thing is the computer would show less than the guage, but I don't want to have to explain it.

You know how dealers are, they look for a reason to give you less on trade in. Can anyone else confirm this, does the computer store the odometer or does it reset when the battery was disconnected?

I know on the new Honda's, there is a seperate computer for the instrument cluster, so when you change the cluster you have to send it out to have the odometer reading corrected. For Honda's there's only 2 places in the country that do this, one in Michigan and the other in California.
