im fixin to start building the motor for my 69' NOVA. the plan is for it to be a ground pounding rice eater. engine mods will be a 427ci tall deck bored .060 over, with a 4.5" stroke, 12.5-1 slugs, a full roller valve train with a custom ground cam W/.760" of lift. to top off the rat motor i have a set of port and polished 3994026 (LS-6) rectangle port heads
i havent decided but think i will run a victor intake and 1050 dominator
w/ a set of 2.25" headers--------i was wondering if any body has run a simuliar combo? just wondering how well it will perform? the car will be mostly drag but will come out of the shop for the occasinal cruse night i would like any comments or feed back that you have.....THANKS......

One thing I will tell you just to make myself feel better is that the setup you are talking about is not a good street driving setup. Being a '69, you won't have to worry about emissions luckilly enough.

I have a few questions though.

First and foremost, what kind of duration are you planning to use on your cam? Most every cam I know that has that kind of lift doesn't generate much low-end torque (which is best for street use).

Which brings me to my second question. Drivetrain. If you're using the 4 speed, you don't have much to worry about if you have proper gears. If you have an automatic on the other hand, you had better invest in a severely beefed up Turbo 350 tranny and a Stall Converter that engages at 3500 rpms then locks at 4000.

Then, how the hell do you plan on getting that hp to the ground? Previous setups similar to that produce in around 550hp to the flywheel and 69 Nova's rear suspension needs a lot of work!

It seems you have done your homework a bit on the engine so I won't bore with that but I would highly suggest looking into the chassis and suspension. I hate to say it but it's drastically inferior to most all new cars out there. Just remember the golden rule of drag racing. You can have the most powerfull engine on the planet, but if you can't put it to the ground, you're going to lose.

thanks for your info, street driving is not my main concern our drag is short and more that likely i will never take it out any way just thought it would be nice. as far as supenison im not sure as the money comes i will tub it. im thinking about a four link setup. i also plan on a roll cage & sub frame connecter to stiffen up the chassie. But am not sure if that is the right way. to go ive never had a car with this much power befor, my daily driver is a 85' buick regal w/a 406ci sbc that runs 13. flats, i used desk top dyno(just to get an idea)it said about 750hp(flywheel). the cam will have aprocimently 274/284 duration @ .050" i wanted to use a race preped th350 or 400 w/a 4000 stall gears not sure what ratio will help setup perform best.

p.s. i love your sig thats awsome,
