Get a DX or wait?

Ive found an 89 crx DX with fairly low miles, but that whole engine swap where i would need a frontcut makes it sound like an awful lot of work.
I cant find a 91 SI except 1 which has nos, which is a big turn off for me because i would rather have stock and know it hasnt been driven hard.
So should i wait to find a stock 91 SI with low miles or get it and do the frontcut thing?
Also are there any differences between the body styles of the HF DX and SI (besides the moonroof)?
Ive seen some pictures of the HF and it looked like the frame was higher but it might have just been a bad picture.

The only difference between the hf and the si are the moonroofs, seats, anti-roll bars (front and back) and a front spoiler. The engine is also different with the hf having 62 hp and the si having 108 hp.
I would wait and find an si because of the fact that they are getting hard to find and are good from the get-go for racing. But if you want a crx badly or can't find any si's, go for the dx.

Well i start school on march 29th and this is the only crx ive seen thats all stock, to think if my credit union didnt lie to me i could have bought a 91 crx si with 120k on it that was for sell a whole month after they said i couldnt.
Can a DX be made into an SI with the front cut and other things? or be just as fast in the long run (after an engine swap)?

the hf was much lighter than the si, this makes a great swap choice, if u plan on eventually doing a swap i say get the hf

Get the Si. I wish I had, I'm constantly chasing after the small things the Si had that my damn DX doesn't. The sunroof would be sweet (admit it), the rear sway bar, the nicer looking interior, and better seats.
Besides, who keeps the motor it comes with anyway!?

Heh there is no HF or SI. I would much rather have a SI too (yea moonroof... and just being able to say i have a SI) but because of my credit union i couldnt get that 1 well i could but they told me too late. It was an ALL stock SI with 120k on it.
My choices r either get the DX (i have till monday to decide so please help) or wait and wait and wait for a SI (if i even see a stock 1 with low miles which could be never now days) and just save my money and get get a SI should i see 1 OR a 94+ ls integra (ive loved the CRX's since i was 8 but 4 seater looks tempting since im startin college this month).
The thing is i can actually afford car insurance on a CRX integra on the other hand i would have like 20 dollars left over every month. I could pay a crx off alot faster and they r still my favorite 2 seater. Currently i gave my old car to my aunt because hers broke down (it was a pos anyways), so im carless and i havent closed my insurance yet hoping to find a car and not have to pay relaps. I dont enjoy paying money for something i dont have so having car insurance with no car pisses me off.
Basically i just want to know if i should wait maybe forever for an SI even though i have no car and will have to catch the bus to school or just get the DX.
O yea this could be the only crx i can get because i have the worst luck SERIOUSLY with crx's everytime i find a crx and make an appointment or go to the dealer they sell it the prior day or in the case of the SI 15 minutes before i call to make an appointment. I usually see the same EXACT car driving down the road (it happend with 2 crx's and 1 integra... same seats, rims and in the case of the integra body kit).
The whole weight factor does kind of suck because ill always know my car isnt the best crx if a hf or si had the same parts.

im probably going to trade one of my hatches for a 91 CRX Si, either my blue 91 DX or my blue 90 STD. not trading the 88 project car though. its got too much into it. the guy wants something with better gas mileage and A/C, so im thinking thats what im going to do.
if you want gas mileage, go HF, if you want a nicer car, one that feels more solid, and is faster, get the Si. the HF has a lighter and thinner suspension, which would suck if you try to get any kind of handling out of it, but would probably be OK if you want to just drop a huge engine in it and go fast in a straight line. traction will still be an issue because of said crappy suspension, and the brakes are not as good.

where do you keep getting this front cut part....you dont have to do this. If you buy a DX then just swap in the SI motor.....its hella cheep. Hell I spent more on my shocks than I would have on a SI engine/tranny combo......I had an SI Before....and it was nice.....but in theory you still have a stock car. I swapped the seats for Del Sol Seats....I gutted out the rears.......Was gonna install a crx dash....(my SI Was a hatch).....but it was such a waste....had I kept it I would have lost so much money. I mean my DX....I have racing seats.....DC2 Dash....No rears...DC2 Door pannels....LS Engine.....Im puttin my own damn sunroof in it since the SI ones leak like a bitch from pine needles....and Its not gonna be stock bodied.....so why spend the extra cash if your gonna change it all anyways......If you want a stock car....buy and SI....they are more refined....but if you want a tuner car....buy a base model.

Well i spoke to someone who said in order to put a vtec into an 89 crx DX i need to get a 'frontcut'. The moonroof like u said isnt a problem i could always have that done, im just afraid ill be losing out on things that u can only do on a crx (possible engine mods?) i only want a stock car to start out with so i know the car hasnt been abused. I do want to put a b16 in it, im just afraid that if i get the DX other crx models like SI and HF would kill me. Because whatever car i get i plan to invest lots of money into it and dont want it to goto waste.
Does anyone have a DX? and do u regret not buying an HF or SI (besides the moonroof factor)?

oh yeah i forgot that one cause most people do that first and foremost when they get a dx.
the dx has dpfi, you need to get a few parts to change it into mpfi, you can get these at a junk yard for fairly cheep, just search to find out all you need to know about this. its the best power upgrade you can do for a dx

My last plee for advice, Is there any reason i SHOULDNT buy the DX? What makes the DX weigh 200 more pounds than the HF?

I'm not sure what you mean by "frontcut," but the biggest hassle with the DX is that it's dual-injected. If you want to swap in the Si engine or any B-series engine, you'll have to convert to port injection. It's not a major operation, just a wiring hassle. A stock Si already has MPFI, so you wouldn't have to worry about the conversion if you went with the Si.

I own an 89 DX. It's actually a pretty good car. The Se has 108 HP versus the DX 92 HP. I think the DX is lighter than an Si. The Si has a few more interior goodies and niceties but, I'm happy with my Dx especially when it comes to the fuel pump. For such a peppy car, 40 plus MPG is pretty good in stock form.

THANK YOU!
I just didnt want to make a big mistake if i got the DX, tomorrow if he hasnt sold it ill be picking it up (its been a weekend which is plenty of time for my bad luck to kick in).
Since the biggest problem is the injectors it doesnt seem to be that bad of a problem to fix.
Thank you all.

the dpfi isnt a problem just something you need to do once you do that your equal to the si except a few little things like the si weighs around 100lbs more

Hey dude,
I have an '89 dx/5-speed, and I find it's a blast to drive, but I havn't driven an Si, so maybe I'm slightly ignorant in that respect. it's a fun, tossable car. I don't know if the si is noticebly faster... anyone else have a better idea?
