Top Speed?!?

What is the top speed an escort 1999 SE can handle? I chickened out on 118mph, now im trying to go 125+. That possible at all or engine will top?

I need to know!!! Will I blow the engine? WIll the rev limiter keep me in safe zone or will it let me to red zone?

my car stops at 115 and wont go anywhere after that...

I mean is it not advancing because it is bouncing off the rev limiter/redline? or is it not advancing because not enough power?

Speed Limit

Ya I know theres a limit!!! But what I want to know is how fast and is it drag limit, engine lmiit, redline lmit, or electronic speed limiter?

well, I belive it should haev a rev limiter, but go to a ford dealer and ask, thats the best way to get answers sometimes. and if your running the car stock, that just might be about the top end. but I have a 93 gt 1.8 dohc. and I was picked by a cop and he said I was doing 147. I didnt believe him, but its what he got.

i haven't topped out yet..but my 1.9 SEFI 96 LX got up to about 110 with ease....i want to increase my acceleration and top speed. does anyone know who got the fastest 2nd gen escort? i want to at least get this car to about 160 which is going to take a lot of experimenting..i know ima have to get a new engine but i got to find the right fit. there aren't many escorts out there in street race so we need to get out there and let us be known.

i do not see how a auto 95 lx with a 1.9L w/ no turbo or naawsss can hit 152 mph... i have traveled at 170+mph before not in the escort and i dont thing the scort will hold esp. stock or w/ intake and exaust. And what track were you at? was that 1/4 times??

I don't know where in the hell you guys are buying your Escorts... :screwy: I have a 95 LX, only 60k miles, and it won't touch anything above 102, and i've been on it hard to get it up to that 102. I had an old cobra stang with a blower at 135ish, and there's no way in hell that lil escort could hold up to that.

the GT will hit 115 the lx is about 110-105.. it depends on how long you want to wait for it to reach the speed...

Going down to the beach it was hard to tell how fast I was going because it's hard to gauge if at those speeds you are actually gaining speed. I topped out at 117 in my 92 GT. Got pulled over on the way back going over 30 over. No more finding out top speed unless its on a track.

I hit 120mph in my 92 Gt just to see if I could. Only mod is a K&N.

I hit 125 on a long stretch of I91 in ct. It didn't want to do any more.
0 - 95 wasn't to bad, it seemed to take forever to get from 95 - 125 though. ( no mods thats just stock) Unless you concider an air intake a mod. I don't.

ya'll r crazy, that car is so light, i wont go past 80 until i get my sport suspension installed...

So light there is slight lift after 100 mph. maybe cuz it was a windy day, but wutcha gona do. I wana hit 130. Really want to, but it seems to plateau around 115.
