At the moment I believe it's a cd by Pete. VERY good band, yet no one seems to know about them. Otherwise, I'm usually switching out custom cd's I burn.

Right now it would be a CD-R compilation disc that i made. Also in my car are Mr. Happy Go Lucky by John Mellencamp, a Stone Temple Pilots album, and Fat of the Land by Prodigy. Every other CD is custom (what can i say, i dig driving to the Cannonball Run theme song. :D

Well, since I asked, I should probably tell too... In my ride, you're gonna find a VERY diverse array of cd's. For example, I've presently got the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack, Top Gun soundtrack, Gorillaz, Alien Ant Farm, various hip hop artists, an old Christmas cd, The Spin Doctors, Faith Hill, the Beatles, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Cetera, David Bowie, War, and many more (I love music). Beat that line-up!

Since most of you are using burnt disks, what kind are you using? I recently burned a copy of all my CDs for my car on some nice PNY Gold disks and so far a couple have craped out on me. I wanted quality and PNY wasn't it.

Right now i'm using the Imation 80 minute discs. They're good for up to 16X and were cheap. I pretty much buy whatever is on sale. I stay away from complete generic discs but have bought Imation, Maxell, Verbatim, etc. Stick to a name brand and you should be fine. Also keep in mind that most CD-R's are not archival quality. That means that they degrade over time.

imation's arent that great either. I bought 40cd's recently gonna return the last 20cd's tomorrow as 4 out of 10 crapped out even on a real-time TASCAM pro-CDRecorder.
I use Taiyo Yuden disc...why? they have the lowest flaw rate in the industry and are the original designers of the CD-R technology. other good discs are Apogee.
btw, pirating music can put you in the hot seat with Federal copyright laws, so be very careful with those copied discs. fortunately, current CDR burners (unless real-time using pro-equipment) dont sound nearly as good as the original glass mastered discs. even though digitally transferred, error rates are still high.

If they are skipping then you have to burn at lower speeds.
That is one of the reasons for such a high error rate (it gets less efficient when copying at higher speeds, especially music).
I agree though, Imation are crap. Only way I get them to work is burn them at ~4x.
I found Memorex generally work good.

After having my car broken into twice in the past couple months, last time searching my car for the faceplate (they found it and took it too... DOH!) I've made a habit of using backup copies of my music cd's in my car, that way if they all get stolen (or scratched), i just make another copy. :D BTW... I use a Yamaha 4x4x16 SCSI burner that works great. I usually burn everything at 1x for the best quality, but even at 4x everything still comes out flawless, no pops, hisses, cracks, etc... Right now I'm using CompUSA generic CD's that cost me $1.88 for 100 cd-r's. I bought about 5 100 packs :D I wish they'd clearance their cd's again, that was cool!

Same here. I ususally have a custom CD-R of upbeat funky jazz tracks that I can chill out to after a long day of work. I also have some George Benson, Lee Ritenour and Fourplay. And I plan on making a classic rock CD with Santana, Pink Floyd, Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan and others. I've never had any problems with my CD-Rs, but I use the Soundstream CD writing software from Adaptec to write my CD's because it has a "normalizer" program which encodes the songs at the same sound level so I don't have to constantly adjust the volume and "realizer" which simply boosts the treble and bass. It also has some other effects like reverb, concert hall and some others that I don't use too often.

All you would ever see is rap. Triple 6 mafia, Fabulous, screw, Soulja Slim, C-Murder, Mystikal, and a little Ludacris. All that just be bangin my 12's. Gotta roll down the windows and bump. Let everybody know I'm comin down da block. ya heard me. Every once in a while I'll listen to some good classical music. Not on CD, just on the radio. Classical music is great to listen to b/c it is like a work of art and you gotta admire it. Beethoven anyone?
