Hey, right now I own a stock 89 240sx, but after an accident it is kinda beat up and needs to much work to get running properly, so now Im in the market to buy an older 240sx and hopefuly do a motor swap, I came across this add in the autotrader for a car with the mods I was gonna do already installed:

http://autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=157875089&dealer_id=&car_year=1989&make=NISSAN&distance=25&max_price=&model=240SX&advcd_on=n&end_year=2005&min_price=&certified=n&address=92040&search_type=used&advanced=n&start_year=1984&color=&cardist=12

and I was wondering how much wear and tear should I expect to notice on the car when I go to check it out (tomorow). And what do you guys think of the mods it already has.

u can do it yourself a head gasket cost liek 40 bux a metal one not much more but if u get someone else to do it about a grand cuz its hella hours of labor

Ill take a look into doing it myself, do you happen to know of any sites that explain it or anywhere I can go to find out, cuz I really dont want to mess it up.

Also, this is gonna be my first turboed car and I was wondering how much Ill need to spend on the upkeep to keep it in great shape, and what kind of precautions I should take.

Well today I was going to take it to a mechanic just to get everything checked out, and the guy didnt think it should be driven because of the headgasket being blown, He said the best bet would be to buy a new block and head for about 500 bucks and swap that because it has all the necessary parts ready to go. Sounds like a crummy deal to me, but the cars extremely fast...so I dont know

Thats what I was thinking, but I dont want to buy it and then there be something else bigger thats wrong, I have another 89 240sx with a KA, can I just use anything from that if the motors goes bad?

He's trying to screw you over by keeping the SR. Don't fall for it. Find out if it's smogged, and have him take it down to fix everything that needs fixing with no extra charges.

I checked on the smog part, its not smogged, nor will it pass smog, I was htinking about offering him $5,000 seeing that it doesnt even run properly, or telling him to fix it and Ill pay full price, what do you think is a better deal?

PS Sorry for the newbie questions, I just really love 240's and dont wanna get screwed on this one

It's all good, we were all newbies at once. Don't get fucked, thats the number 1 rule. Make sure he smogs it and that it is a legally drivable car. Have him pay for everything or you won't buy it. Don't even offer 5,000, because if hes willing to drop taht far its obviously not good. Maybe you can haggle it down a bit, but first and foremost make sure it passes smog.

My honest opinion, though, would be to buy a stock 240, and with the money you would have bought this for, you could make the most badass 240. for a complete turbo setup its anywhere from 1500 - 3000, and if you want you can use ebay and make custom stuff for yourself and build your own kit (what I'm doing). Just find out if this guys taking you for more than just a (car) ride.

I have a freind who works at a auto shop who can use my other 240 to use to pass this one (if that made sense.)
If thats not the route to go, I have about $8000 to spend on purchasing and building up on a stock 240

The only problem with building up a stock 240 is that I dont know much about how to install things like a new motor, or exhaust, and would probably have to pay for someone to install it for me.
(Im 17)

Shit, with 8,000 you can get an RB swap and have it installed for you! (BTW RB is the Skyline engines.)
Look into it man, for an estimate on RB motors and swaps go to www.night7racing.com theres many more but this place has them for good prices. There's also an upgrade in there somewhere.

I got an RB25det quote from afterdark tuning for my old 240 and it came out to about 11k including installation :(

But Il keep looking around, I really want this 240 to be supreme

yea dude 8gs damn....buy the ol stocker beater and pimp that bitch out.(and i dont mean with fur interior and shit). That way u can feel like u made the car and not take one that was done up already that u just happen to take over....(i hope that made sense). 8gs is plenty of start up cash for ur ride man.

and is your current 240 totaled out? if so doesnt that mean more cash for u from insurance.....i just got mine totaled and made a free 1600 dollars lol. my damages are easy to fix though just a new rear bumper and pull out the floor panel because its wrinkled up like grandma skin. i bought the car back for 400 and originally they were giving me 2000 so i end up with 1600. its like i benefited from the wreck. and holy cow its 2 A.M. im tired and thats y im ramblin.....good night all.
