In 1989 I beleive the Camaro had the 2.8 v6 or maybe the 3.1. They weren't fast at all

My buddy has a 2.8 in his camaro , its slow and useless , he was beaten by a fire fly at the track last year. He tries to keep up with me on the highway but cannot and damn near cooks his engine doin it. It would be nice to race a lower mileage v6 camaro so I can have a true opinion. He can sure roast the tires on it tho.

He's talking about old V6 Camaros, they weren't quick at all, the 2.8 had a bunch of low end power, making it relatively easy to burnout and make them look fast lol. They also came with the 2.5 Iron duke 4 cylinder for a few years, I can't even imagine how slow they were

I had an 86 Camero with the 2.8. When I was in England, I had a feord escort behind me with a 4 banger, and I could not loose it. My have been a Cosworth though. You get those in England. That was about 1993.
I just put a monkey rigged CAI on my 2002 GA GT, and it reminds me of a feord mustang. It sounds so cool, I can't stay off the gas. My foot just pushes down on the pedal, and hear the little roar. Can't wait til I get a good exhaust sytem. I used the stock air box for my CAI. Now I have no washer fluid reservoir. Need to figure something out for that.

why did you have remove the washer fluid resevoire? you didnt have to do that. your ram air setup that comes with your gt was a cold air intake already.

I just got use of a digdital camera today. I'll take some pictures, and see if I can get them on hear to show the difference, and why I had to remove the reservoir.

Only the Ram Air part was. On the other side of the air box, the duct had 180 degree turns, and got air just under the battery. This is the one I replace with the PVC CAI I monkey rigged in. Now there isn't room for the reservoir.

I agree with urweak. The engine sounds louder now, and when I tried the 1/4 mile the other night, I still did better than before, even though I pealed out and the ETS slowed me down. I didn't try agian, because I am affraid of a ticket. Don't want to mess up my perfect driving record. Where I go isn't the best place to test it out. If I see a car coming(at night) I slow down and give up. We need a track here to do legal racing.

yea you didnt need to remove the window washer tank. alot of people do that but they odnt remove it.but you should get rid of you stock intake box and put a cone filter on the end of the pipe in the fender, then run pipe to your TB
shark2000
03-09-2004, 07:36 PM
I spent the money on the K&N filter, so I want to use it. I think if the filter is on the end, than It doesn't get as much force. That's just my opinion though. They way it is now is like having dual Ram Air.

i used a simular method as you but i removed the fender to fit it so its in front of the washer fluid tank

I guess I'll have to redo it some time.
BTW, markgase2000, do you like the CAI the way you have it better than getting rid of the original air box? Do you also have the Ram Air? Do you have a picture?

its easy and quick to do , you can use your stock filter box itll work just as good as a cone if you set it up right , just make your tubes join in the box at an angle shooting at the throttle body.

i made a cai with a f150 cone filter and half or more of the box. I got pics of it , i guess id have to e-mail it though. Later on i made a ram air kit for it too.

That thing is huge! Is the cone filter inside the dome? I was trying to stay away from cuting into the metal. As it is, I had to bend and pund with a hammer to get done what I did with mine. Before I forget, I need to go feed Godzilla. lol
Markgase2000
03-09-2004, 11:26 PM
I know its huge , i didnt want to wait 6 weeks for the grand am filter so i made my own setup in an hour lol i am also handy with a dye grinder and a welder. Not a peice of that car i havent taken off and put back on

No problem. I was just having so much fun setting up my web site, then I remembered the avitar setting was only 100X100 and couldn't figure out how to get a picture that small. Then I found it on the photo editing software.
I can't wait to go out and find out what my car can really do now with this new CAI I put in it. If I can just figure out the take off. No peal out, and that would work out good. But not to lite, or I'll still have a bad start. Did you have your 1/4 mile listed on the forum somewhere?

me? i might have a guessed est time , 13.8 was the best i done but i would rather time it on the track. Im not gonna give away all of my toys/tricks since i did come up with them myself so i always say the same thing when ppls ask what i done to it. I always leave some of it out.

Sounds good. I've just begun. Now I just need to come up with enough money to do the major upgrades. I do want to eventualy get the full exhaust system. That's quite a bit now. Maybe one peice here and there untill I have all the peices.lol I think thy come as a set though. Cat back($599)or($389.99), then headers($729.99).
Markgase2000
03-10-2004, 01:30 AM
omg , the exhaust is expensive either way. I increased the pipe diameter to 2 1/2 inch and put bottles on it for 230 dollars. Cat back is cool though cus you can still have the dual exhaust look.

Are you gonna get rid of your top speed limiter?
I got a delco performance chip and a jet performance module on mine. The delco removes the top speed limiter and the jet makes a artificial stall of 1000 to 1200 rpms for take off and tightens trans line pressure too. The jet was 200 bucks and the delco was 500 bucks plus 60 shipping both ways.

I financed it at work , not all at once , i just paid it off , i did buy a super charger from a bonneiville for 300 as a impulse buy , got a buddy to make some spacers to fit it on the lower intake manifold , it was busted in a month.

Was it just wore out or what? Is it something you should have replaced like bearings or something just to be safe? Or was it just I bigger failure? (did it shred or what?)
I knew someone who found an old Firebird with a 350 with a turbo. It was in someones yard with grass growing around it. He paid $50, brought a battery, and a portable air tank for the tires. After about 50 miles, the turbo gave out.

the bearings seazed up inside and kinda shredded insides up. I felt so dumb putting that old peice of crap in. Im looking to get something to lowwer my compression so i can use higher boost without botching anything then ill use a small turbo , im not too concerned with top speed.

did i miss readsomething or did you say ur SE G/A runs 13.8's? lol i hope i read wrong because u went from 16's to 13's. and as far as i know you would need SERIOUS engine work to accomplish that. ur in lt1 territory with high 13's if its true i gotta give you props
