well, i think i might have desided to buy this thing. i know that everywere on here ppl have said to go ahead and get an R6... and i would LOVE 2. but i think that the 6k tag is a little much. (used) i was looking more at the 96ish range (like 2-3k) b/c i could almost afford that in cash. anyway, i want everyone's thoughts on the 600r. oh, its gonna be my 1st street bike, though i have been around dirt bikes and ATVs for a long time. i have been meaning to get around to priceing exact insurance but the only way i will get an R6 is if i can get my note AND insurance for around $200/month. (finance whats left after the $2500 or so for NO more than 2 years)

so basicly is the 600r a good bike? more than just handeling, accel, and stopping. is it comfortable to ride, and how does it act with a passanger on board? also, is there resonable justification for me to jump from a bike that will cost me ...say $3800 (96) to a bike that will cost me something like 6-7k (for a 2000ish)? is there THAT much of a differance?

I think that a 600r will be just as nice a bike as the r6, personally. Save your money b/c almost any 600cc bike will perform well.

well i have 2k now. i am thinking of just financing the rest (for the 600r) if i find one i like. ...i could use the credit score anyway :)

that is, unless someone buys my stero!! hehe.

So you have 3800? You can get an R6 for that easily. It would probably be a 99 or 00 for sure but I see them sell for that all the time. I got my 00 for 3000 bucks. Need 200 bucks worth of parts. So just shop. Like I said it isnt rare to see an r6 under 4000.

really? i havn't look a local prices yet. i have just surfed Ebay some and read like 1/2 of the threads in this forum.

anyway, today i went to get some gas at a local place b/c i was bord and low and behold, there was a few (like 6) guys there that had street bikes. well i made conversation, talked about how i might buy one but i am not sure want i wanted, and other stuff. well all i really wanted was their recomendations. what i got was to ride most of their bikes lol. there was an F4i, an R6, a cruser (honda?), another cruser (yammy?), and a 250 ninja i think (it was a 250 lol) oh and an R1. the 250 was one of the guys's kid's bike. so they showed me how to ride that thing. i must have been their for 3-4 hours lol. anyway, after like an hour or so i got really comfortable with it (almost bord) so they let me try the R6. well, no way in hell; that thing scares me lol. maybie it was b/c i got acustomed to the 250's power, but it seemed like every time i gave it some gas it picked up. (in 1st and 2nd) they made me drive it lol just told me to 'get used to it' i drove it for maybie 30 mins. i got were i could drive it ok - like not scare myself on it - but i wasn't comfortable on it. i drove the F4i aswell, and i have to say that i acctually liked that the best out of them all! mostly b/c you sit so comfortablly on it and that does mean a lot sence i live in BFE (bum fucked egipt(sp?)). at any rate i know i could learn on a 600cc i just know myself and i know that i have a tendency to see what something can do. so i think perhaps i should start on something like a 400c lol. that way it is still fast, and i wont outgrow it within the 1st year that i have it. anyway, i am about to go look around for a 400 that i like. any sugestions?

400's are hard to come by. The US market never really liked that size. You're better off trying to find a 500cc like the Kaw EX500 (aka 500R) or a Suz GS500(E). The Kaw tends to have a little more power, and thus people keep them longer. I had a GS500 for my first street bike and sold it after one season, but then again, I also rode dirt bikes as a kid, so I probably should have gone straight for the 600s. If you liked the F4i, maybe you could find an older F3 or F2 since it's still pretty much the same bike, but they're carburated, so they tend to be a LITTLE more forgiving, IMHO. Glad that you got to meet some people who were cool to talk to. That's always encouraging!!! Good luck!

i would just assume to get a 600cc b4 a 500c. it just seems that the 600 would be somewhat more dangerus to learn on, but i would keep it MUCH longer. and they are essentually the same price. i am leaning on a 250 right now though. i haven't really had any experance on a bike so i think that would be the best way to go. afterall, if i decide that riding is not for me i have only spent like 1500 lol. and i can still have a lot left over for buying a 600 when everyone sells the bikes at the end of this season when i am ready for it.

what i have been told for the 250 (as its my 1st bike) is start stock, then get a pipe, then if i want to take one more step up b4 going 600 but a chain and sproket on it. it will only go like 80, but it will get there VERY fast (compairable to a 600) and that would give me a feel for the accel on a 600. ...any truth to this?

You can get a 250 to 100mph and above... but they are so light they tend to "dance" on the highway at highway speeds. I kinda miss my 500. I wish I would have gotten the Kaw 500 rather than the Suz 500, though. I know a guy who has a 1990 Honda CBR1000 (think refrigerator) and he STILL steals his kid's EX500 for a run just b/c they are so light and flickable.

If you like the 250s, they are fun, too. I've only ridden one, but they are soooooo light and nimble. Besides, you can pick one used for CHEAP because most people buy and ride for a year or two and then sell to the next "learner" who comes around.
