I'm pretty sure the fastest is still the 89 TTA. It had a turbo 3.8L buick engine. Of course I could be mistaken.

ah, but you're forgeting the old firebirds that carried the 455, i have a feeling that would have eatin a 89TTA alive for breakfest lunch and dinner.

Don't Firehawks play a significant role in the speed contest? Or is it just their acceleration that is unbeatable?

i'd say the fastest is the Firehawk produced in 02.. the 89 Turbo 3.8 was fast but only like mid 13's -high 13's.. i bet a firehawk could hit low 13's...

By fastest 1/4 time, do you mean lowest E.T or fastest MPH? The TTA ran mid to low 13's I think, but the new LS1 'Hawks could probably do that too. The SD455's were fast too, not sure about 1/4 times though.

Both the GTA 89 (13.7 -14.1 1/4) and 455 Firebird where fast although if your talking about the 74 + when GM got hit with the new emissions laws those where dogs with a quarter time of like 15.0 . but earlier versions yielded like in the high 13's 1/4 wise and while these are very impressive a 2002 SLP Firehawk would dominate these cars in stock trim as well as to top speed.

the 1973 trans am ran the 1/4 in 13.53 @ 104 with an auto and 3.42 gears the sd455 put out 310hp so if it had the 1970 ram air 5 motor making 500 horses then you imagine what the time would be but Im not sure the ram air 5 was a preduction motor so then 2nd to that is the ram air 4 making 370hp either the ram air 5 would put the t/a into the 11's easily

I have never driven a 455 (any of the versions) so I'm going by what the magazines and websites say they should do but 11's out of a stock Early 70's car would be amazing. But I never heard from anyone nor did I read they where that fast any where so. They must be a hidden Gem

early 70's 455 made insane amounts of torque and alot of hp too its just firebirds were to big to realy utilize the power....
out of a 74 455 with a new cam, new exhaust and a compession bump of 3 points you gain almost 200 horse power..... just shows you the potential from those early pontiac motors

pre-emmisions 455's and similar engines did make huge power, their problem was getting traction- so an out of the box 455 firebird might not be that good in a 1/4 but add some suspension to get the power down and it will lower the time quite a bit.

OK , I know that the 93 was different than the 94 - 97 LT1's (smaller injector's, Speed density instead of Mass Air , Different computer setting , Different Auto Tranny and I have noticed that in most web sites and magazines they show a pretty big drop in the 0 -60 and 1/4 mile from 93 - 94 but there is no way in hell unless your like 20000 feet above sea level and 130 + Temp outside that a 93 LT1 can't do better than those number's

well, i remember seeing in road and track, the 305hp trans am with ram air only ran 14.4 with the 6 speed... which in my opinion is pretty damn slow, so i can see a 14.8 being possible.. especially with an automatic...0-60 can easily suffer with a bad driver that can't get traction.... No, biggy, it's still a great motor to start with...

Those driver's must have sucked cause at Englishtown I see stock ws6's and z28 SS's do high 13 runs all the time.

Those number's are all subjective to the driver and weather condtions the day of the run.

Is the 3.8 liter turbo trans am called a GTA or is that different? Cause my cousin had a 86 GTA with fullexhaust, heads, underdrive pulleys, and a chip and he only ran 14.7.. He did have a shit load of miles on it...
