have an 88 astro van that doesn't want to idle hardly at all, especially at start-up in warm or cold weather. changed the plugs & wires about 1000 miles ago. just had the catalytic converter cut off and new muffler put on. that seemed to solve the poor acceleration to some degree. no codes are showing up in diagnostic mode. changed the fuel filter when i changed the plugs. have to bump the gas sometimes to keep it from dying. o2 sensor, map sensor, or EGR valve? have bad feeling about fuel pump or injector(s)?!

I'm in the process of trying to diagnose a problem with some similarities to yours. One piece of advice I got was that idle problems are often traced to vacuum leaks. With an engine as old as yours, a lot of the hoses might have become hard and brittle. Look for leaks on all your vacuum hoses especially where they connect to the engine since that is usually the location with the most heat and thus the most degradation.
Good luck.
