Homemade Headlights?

Anyone ever try to make blacked out headlights by painting their stock inner headlight housing(not the lens) black? If so, how did you do it? Will it affect how well the headlights work?

I have done it and have two suggestions:

1) Unless you are a significantly better painer than I am, don't be a perfectionist - they won't look too perfect until you get the lense covers back on.
2) If you're married, get some disposable pot holders or you will hear about the silicone stains for weeks. :)

LOL...I love suggestion Number 2, that's priceless. I had this awful fear "homemade headlights" involved zip tying flashlights to the bumper, lol.

w00t! Did my headlights this weekend. Now I face a problem I want to fix...I don't want any amber bulbs burning until I turn the blinker/hazard light on. So what I need to do is install another bulb and have it white and then have the amber come on for blinker I guess. But I don't know how I should go about doing this. I doubt they make this but what would be perfect is a double filament bulb that can put out amber and white. lol but there's not so can anyone help me out on this?

I don't know if this will help you, but the Sylvania Silverstar signal bulbs are amber in color when lit, but look like a white bulb when off...so in the day time when the parking lamps are off it would do what you want, though not at night when the parking lamps are lit also. Anyways, I am guessing your front signals have to be Amber in texas (you are in texas, right?) I know here in Oregon, the front signals can be White, Amber, or Yellow. If you havn't actually checked, check with the DMV over in there of with the DOT. That's what I did here to finally figure it out once and for all (I got sick of different answers). After I found out it was legel, I carried around a copy of where the code was listed in the drivers manual, just in case I needed it to show someone it was indeed legel. If you havn't checked it out yet, I'd check it out before you go through all that work.

B1hybrid 1157 is a little whiter than PIAA extreme white 1157's, though PIAA is a little brighter (21/5 for the B1hybrid, 27/8 for the PIAA) I know that on a 92 civic, the stock bulbs are 27/8, not sure what they are on your car, so the circut shouldn't have a problem with the higher wattage. It won't match prefect of course, but chances are your H4's run a 4000-4300K color temp, that's the color temp of white headlights usually. That being said, the PIAA is still pretty white, just a hint more yellow than the B1 Hybrids. I like the PIAA ones better personally, I like the higher output.

You're going to look for wattage most likely. I have seen 21/5, 27/8, and 35/5 watt bulbs. I know PIAA's Extreme White 1157 is 27/8, most white bulbs are 21/5. I beilve stock it's 27/8 on 92-95 civics, though not sure on your civic. I can't remember the brand that had wattage of 35/5, but I have seen it around a few times (not a commen brand). It will say on the package though. I hope that helps a little bit. If I happen to come accross it, I'll post it, though I doubt I'll be anywhere I can look anytime soon.
