Civic interior light problem

I have a 97 civic Ex, for some reason the dome light nolonger works right. I have replaced the bulb two times now and I know its not the bulb. The weird thing is when I slide the switch, my trunk open light comes on the dash. When I open the doors the same thing happens. Shows the trunk is open, when I shut the doors the light goes out and dings, but still no dome light? WTF is going on?

You've likely got a short between the two wires. Unfortunately, I can't help you find it other than to suggest you check behind your lower left dash panel. Good luck.

Is there an aftermarket radio installed? If not I would start by replacing both door switches.

I just installed an aftermarket stereo and now my dome light doesnt turn on when i open my door. The light works if I put it in the on position, but doesn't light up when I have the door open. And yes, this happened right after I installed the radio...

I have had a Clarion head unit in for over 2 years now , however it started after I built my system in the trunk. I think it may have to do with the Trunk light wires. Ever hear of thaT?

nope, it has nothing to do with that. The green harness that was connected to the factory head unit had two wires that enabled the dome light to work when the door was open. Since the harness cannot be connected to an aftermarket deck, the two wires sit there unused. Like they said before, all you have to do is cross the two wires.

>> Maybe you had the head unit installed by someone and they already crossed the wires, and it so happened to be that when you started upgrading your system the two wires became loose?

EDIT: I didn't read that first post, but yeah you definitly have to have some sort of short somewhere. I dunno how that could happen though..

Well if I'm right ignition just needs constan +12v and then the ground well just stick it to a ground if you have to

might already know that but oh well
