I am being offered a ceramic CT20 turbo for my MR2... I have a '91 MR2 3SGTE... the person that is selling it to me says that can my car pick up to 350bhp at the max... is this true? I need help with this because he is offering it at a decent price.... anyone knows about this?

317 RWHP is the most I have seen from a CT20b and that is with a fully built motor (cams and all).
That was done by one of the best (if not THE best) MR2 tuners in the country.
I am very skeptical of someon claiming to be able to get 350 form it.

You will notice a significant gain over the ct26, but not HUGE (lke a T3T4, TD06 or the GT turbos)

the ct20b is a very well designed OEM turbo, it will spool significantly faster than the ct26. i have seen 350whp from it, but it takes a lot of cash to get it anywhere near that

bottom line: if you want more than 350whp, why are you even bothering with stock turbos? go buy a greddy or an hks upgrade kit and start putting down 500+hp, if you want a relatively cheap upgrade that will give you a noticable increase in performance, get the ct20b

350 rwhp from a ct20b?
I would like to see that.
On what are you basing the CT20b spooling faster than the ct26?

500 hp from a GReddy/HKS turbo is kind of open ended don't you think?
The most popular GReddy turbo for the MR2 is the TD06 and you are not going to see 500rwhp with that unit. The GReddy T67 and T78 would be better choices.

I have yet to see an HKS turbo put down big numbers in an MR2.

i'll see if i can dig up the dyno on that 350whp

i am basing on it spooling faster from driving an st185 before and after swapping turbos (ct26 -> ct20b)

and i was just trying to make the point that if he wants to put down big numbers he needs to upgrade his turbo

I really don't want the whole 350hp... i am looking for 260 or 280, hopefully that turbo will do the trick... i really don't have that much cash so if it gets up to 350, you sure need lots of of it... about the 350hp, the person that is selling it to me says it can get up to 350hp if I want to... and about the spooling, I have heard that it spools earlier than the CT20, not the CT26.....

why do i keep hearing the term ct20??? the ct20 does NOT bolt on to the 3sgte engine... if he isnt selling the ct20b turbo then do not buy it, because it will be of no use to u....

so is it the ct20b or the ct20? they are two different turbos

If 260-280 is your goal, then the ct20b is a great choice.
I would be slightly leary of the seller though, if they are claiming it can make 350 rwhp.

They are either lying or do not understand what they have ... or they are expecting your to ad a 50 HP shot of NOS.
That turbo on a 3sgte MR2 engine is not going to touch 350 rwhp.

Someone once told me of the greddy t77 or was it the 78 works especially good on MR2s , in fact the t77/78 was designed for it? is this true? cuz that thing is a huge turbo and its surprising to me that a company would design such a big turbo the MR2

HondaChili, GReddy makesa T67 and a T78 kit for the MR2.
Yes, they are huge turbos. They make huge power.
They also drastically change the power band.
Talk to rollhard on here ... I beleive he has the T67.

This huge turbos are excellent at drag racing. They make monster power.
They are very laggy though so they are not ideal for tight roadcourses, hill climbs and autocrosses.

A GReddy TD06 or a custom T3T4 (like mine) are better choices for a balance between big power and a fatter power band.

Now, besides acquiring the CT20B turbo, what else has to be done in order to get those 260-280hp?? any special things to the engine or just slapping the turbo onto the engine will do? I know the turbo boost has to be higher in order to achieve greater horsepower and also an FCD will help me with the fuel cut so that it does not kick in so early... any ideas??

260-280 rwhp ... nothing has to be done to the engine.
I have zero engine work and have run my engine well over 320 rwhp.

To raise boost above 12 psi you need to resolve Fuel Cut.
An FCD will raise the FC point to 17 psi.
You can unplug the vac hose to the MAP sensor and cork it for free and never have fuel cut at any pis level (but you lose that as a safety feature).
I have no fuel cut at all on my car.

I would highly suggest a better intercooler (GReddy is a great choice).

what psi will the engine withhold before any damages will occur if I eliminate the fuel cut? What recommended psi can I use the CT20B turbo so that my car can throw around 26-280hp??

What psi will the engine hold? ... that depends on supporting mods.

I use water injection (40% methanol), GReddy IC (with 2 SPAL fans), the car is tuned and I use race gas (110 octane leaded) and my engine has no worries at 22 psi of boost from a T3T4 .... and 195,700 original miles :D

The engine can handle a lot IF and ONLY if you do things properly.
Years ago I blew up an MR2 engine at only 14 psi.

As for how much boost do you need for 260-280 rwhp ... that is going to depend on supoprting mods.
