Clicking In Engine, 89 Cav Z24 2.8

Was driving the Cav tonight, and noticed a constant "light clicking" while I drove it. No noise while the clutch was disengaged, so it's not in the engine. My best guess is that the starter isn't disengaging, because I don't see how the flywheel could be making that noise.
Anyway, to my questions: If it isn't the starter, what else should I look at? And if it is, is the problem more likely to be electrical (corroded leads) or mechanical? Wife takes it to work tomorrow, but I hope to have time to look at it over the weekend.
Mileage is about 290 000 km (160 000 mi) so with a 15 yr old car, the starter doesn't owe me anything. OTOH, rust has me carefully considering any further repairs. All help appreciated!
Cheers,
BA
